Sahitya Akademi’s Bhasha Samman Award
T.R. Damodaran and Saroja Sundararajan, two writers from Tamil Nadu awarded for this year’s Sahitya Akademi’s Bhasha Samman Award for Sourashtra language.
About this Award:
The Sahitya Akademi Award is given to authors writing in the language since 2007.
T.R. Damodaran, former Sanskrit professor of Sourashtra College in Madurai, won the award for his book “Jiva Sabda Kosam”.
Saroja Sundarajan, a house wife selected for her works of Yogendran Moonnum Singaru Latun (in Tamil, Yogendra Thalaivarkalin Manathiley Ezhuntha Azhagiya Alaigal), a rendition works of Adi Sankara’s Soundaryalahiri, Kanagadhara and Mahishashuramarthini stotra, Natana Gopala Nayagi Swami’s “Mooschi Deshad”, Subramanian Mahatmiyam and songs of Sai Baba.

National Consumer Day
The Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution is celebrating the National Consumer Day on 24th December, 2016.
Theme of this year : “Alternate Consumer Disputes Redressal”.
On this day, the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 had received the assent of the President.
The Day is an annual occasion for celebration and solidarity within the national consumer movement and is an opportunity to promote the basic rights of all consumers.

Smart Anti – Airfield Weapon test fired
The Defence and Research Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully tested an indigenous Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon (SAAW) from an Indian Air Force aircraft on December 24, 2016.
This smart weapon, which is one of the world class weapon systems used to destroy runways, bunkers, aircraft hangers and other reinforced structures.
