Three new sites recognised as biodiversity hotspots in Goa
BirdLife International, a conservation organisation, has recognized three new sites in Goa as hotspots for protection.
The sites have been added to their list of “Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas”.
Key facts:
The inclusion of these ecological hotspots in a new book come after systematic data collection by the Goa Bird Conservation Network (GBCN).
Now, seven areas in Goa have been termed important biodiversity areas by BirdLife.
Goa earlier had four recognised biodiversity areas:
Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary and Mollem National Park,
Carambolim Wetlands,
Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary and
Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary.
The list has now added Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary, Navelim Wetlands and Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary.

Little Miss Universe Internet 2017 won by Little Indian Girl
Padmalaya Nanda from Odisha won the “Little Miss Universe Internet 2017” and “Little Miss Actress” crowns at the Little Miss Universe 2017 at port city of Batumi in Georgia.
In that competition, Thailand won the silver crown.
She will be now qualified for the “Little Miss World 2017” competition, which will be held at Greece from Sept 25 to Oct 1, 2017.

Nalanda model of water conservation chosen for national award
A model of water conservation adopted successfully by the authorities in Nalanda district of south central Bihar, has been selected for the national award for excellence in the Mahatma Gandhi national rural employment guarantee programme (MGNREGP), by the ministry of rural development.
The award for excellence will be conferred on ‘Project Jal Sanchay’, the water conservation model.
Project Jal Sanchay:
‘Project jal sanchay’ was launched under MGRNREGP, to offer farmers a wide spectrum of solutions to water crisis.
Under this, check dams were created and traditional Aahar-Pyne irrigation system and traditional water bodies were desilted and renovated, accompanied by campaigns to create awareness about rainwater harvesting.
The water conservation project has not only improved the availability of water but has also positively impacted farm production in the areas covered by the project.

Jitu Rai & Heena Sidhu won gold in mixed team 10m Air Pistol event at World Cup
In the 10m mixed team air pistol event, Jitu Rai & Heena Sidhu defeated Russia and won the gold medal in the finals at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Rife/Pistol stage at Gabala, Azerbaijan.

French Open 2017: Michael Venus, Ryan Harrison won men’s doubles title
Michael Venus and Ryan Harrison won the men’s doubles title in the French Open, 2017 cup.
Michael Venus became New Zealand’s first Grand Slam champion since 1974 when he partnered American Ryan Harrison to the French Open men’s doubles title.
Venus and Harrison defeated Santiago Gonzalez of Mexico and American Donald Young in the final at Roland Garros.
