Enhanced Version of Pinaka Mk-1 Missile
Recently, an enhanced version of the Pinaka Mark (Mk)-1 missile was successfully flight-tested from the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha.
The enhanced version of the Pinaka Mk-1 system was taken up to achieve longer-range performance compared to the earlier design with lesser length.
The design and development has been carried out by Pune-based DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) laboratories – Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL).
The Enhanced Pinaka Mk-1 will eventually replace the Pinaka Mk-1 missiles, which are currently used by regiments of the Indian Army along India’s frontiers with China and Pakistan.
While the Mark-1 has a range of 38 km, the enhanced version of Mark-1 has a range of 45 km and some key additional features.

Recently, Hurricane Eta has hit northeastern Nicaragua with life-threatening storm surge, catastrophic winds and flash flooding occurring over portions of Central America.
It is categorised as a Category 4 hurricane. A Category 4 storm has wind speeds between 130-156 mph and can uproot trees and bring down power lines.

Luhri hydropower project: Shimla
The project is located in Shimla and Kullu districts. Recently, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the investment for 210 MW Luhri Stage-I Hydro Electric Project. It is located on River Satluj in Shimla and Kullu districts of Himachal Pradesh.
It is being implemented by Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL) on Build-Own-Operate-Maintain (BOOM) basis with active support from Government of India and the State Government. Government of India is providing grants of Rs. 66.19 crore for enabling infrastructure.

Prof.A N Bhaduri Memorial Lecture Award 2020
To recognize the significant contributions towards defining the survival tactics of Leishmania donovani, Society of Biological Chemists (India) has chosen Dr Susanta Kar,Senior Scientist, Molecular Parasitology and Immunology, CSIR-CDRI, Lucknow for this year’s Prof.A N Bhaduri Memorial Lecture Award.
Leishmania donovani is a protozoan parasite that infects macrophages and is a causative agent of visceral leishmaniasis (Kala-Azar). It infects the mononuclear phagocyte system including the spleen, liver and bone marrow.

India-Bangladesh sign MoU on COVID-19 Vaccine
On November 5, 2020, the Government of Bangladesh signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Serum Institute of India for priority delivery of 3 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses. This COVISHIELD Vaccines was developed by AstraZeneca and University of Oxford.
According to the agreement, initially 1.5 crore people will be vaccinated as each person requires two vaccine doses.
COVID-19 Vaccine in India:
Currently there are three COVID-19 vaccines under trial in India. They are the Russian Vaccine called Sputnik V, Oxford University Vaccine called COVISHIED and the COVAXIN jointly developed by Indian Council of Medical Research and Bharat Biotech.
India is a part of the COVAX Facility of the GAVI Alliance. The facility aims to avail COVID-19 vaccines to all countries. The main objective of the facility is to prevent vaccine nationalism. GAVI is Global Alliance for Vaccines.

First India-Nordic-Baltic Conclave held
On November 5, 2020, the first India-Nordic-Baltic Conclave was held virtually. India was represented by External Affairs Minister S Jai Shankar.
The Conclave was jointly hosted by Ministry of External Affairs and Confederation of Indian Industry. The Conclave focused on clean technologies and renewable energies, Artificial Intelligence, supply chain logistics and block chain led transformation.
Nordic Baltic Eight:
The Nordic Baltic Eight includes Estonia, Denmark, Finland, Latvia, Iceland, Norway, Lithuania and Sweden. The Baltic States are Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. These three countries are located in the Baltic sea and are fast growing economies.
