National Events:

National Broadcasting Day : 23 July:

  • National Broadcasting Day is observed on 23 July every year .On this day in 1927 , the first – ever radio broadcast in the country went on the air from the Bombay Station under a private company , the Indian Broadcasting Company .
  • On the 8th of June , 1936 , the Indian State Broadcasting Service became All India Radio . Radio broadcasting services started in India during the British rule in 1923 .

 

Khubal in North Tripura:

  • The ONGC has inked gas sale agreements with GAIL India and Assam Gas Company Ltd ( AGCL ) to monetise its upcoming field at Khubal in North Tripura district .
  • Under the agreement , the GAIL and AGCL will receive 50,000 standard cubic metre of gas each from Khubal Gas Gathering Station ( GGS ) . Once it starts production , Khubal will be the tenth producing field of ONGC in Tripura .

 

Karnataka Employment Policy 2022-25:

  • The Karnataka government has approved the ” Karnataka Employment Policy 2022-25 ” . Medium scale industries where the minimum employment is 20 , have been ordered to create seven more jobs .
  • If an industrial unit is planning on increasing its working capital by 50 crore , then it has been ordered to create at least 30-50 more employment opportunities .

 

India’s forex reserves:

  • India’s forex reserves fell to $ 572.7 billion as of 15 July 2022 , the lowest in over 20 months .The reserves fell by $ 7.5 billion from the week ended 8 July , according to data released by RBI .
  • The decline in foreign exchange reserves during the week is mainly due to foreign currency assets that were down $ 6.5 billion .

 

Burhanpur:

  • Burhanpur of Madhya Pradesh has become the first ‘ Har Ghar Jal ‘ certified district in the country .Burhanpur is the only district in the country where people from each of 254 villages have access to safe drinking water through taps .
  • Only 36.54 % of households in Burhanpur had potable drinking water through tap connections at the time of the launch of Jal Jeevan Mission on 15th August 2019 .

 

68th National Film Awards:

  • The winners of the 68th National Film Awards – 2020 were announced by Information & Broadcasting Ministry on 22 July 2022 in New Delhi .
  • Best Feature Film : Soorarai Pottru. Best Actor : Suriya for Soorarai Pottru & Ajay Devgn for Tanhaji .Best Actress : Aparna Balamurali for Soorarai Pottru . Madhya Pradesh won the ‘ Most Film Friendly State ‘ award . National Film Awards were first awarded in 1954 .

 

National Flag Adoption Day : 22 July:

  • Every year , India celebrates National Flag Adoption Day on July 22 . It was on this day that the tricolour was adopted as the national flag of India in 1947 .
  • The motion to adopt the tricolour as the national flag of India was put forward by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on 22 July 1947 in the Constituent Assembly . The National Flag of India was designed by Indian freedom fighter Pingali Venkayya .

 

Deloitte & UP:

  • The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to appoint Deloitte India as a consultant to suggest plans for bringing the state’s economy to the USD 1 trillion mark .
  • With a gross state domestic product ( GSDP ) of $ 238.8 billion , currently UP is ranked the 3rd largest economy in India . UP Chief Minister : Yogi Adityanath . Deloitte is an international professional services network headquartered in London .

 

’Varuna’:

  • PM Narendra Modi on 20 July 2022 unveiled ‘ Varuna ‘ , India’s first passenger drone in New Delhi . Varuna has been developed by a startup ‘ Sagar Defence Engineering ‘ specifically for the Indian Navy .
  • Varuna can carry a 130 kg human payload & has a range of 25 km .It has 25-33 minutes of flight time . Sagar Defence Engineering founded : 2015 Headquarters : Mumbai. CEO : Nikunj Parashar.

 

’DigiVanni’:

  • The Nasscom Foundation , along with Google in July 2022 announced the launch of two call centres under the ‘ DigiVanni ‘ initiative .
  • DigiVaani will be one place where rural women entrepreneurs will be able to call and get the information to help them scale up their business .
  • The project is being run on a pilot basis to initially reach out to 20,000 rural women entrepreneurs across six states .

 

 

International Events:

Russia & Ukraine:

  • Russia and Ukraine signed separate agreements in Istanbul on 22 July 2022 with Turkey and the United Nations .The deal will enable Ukraine to export 22 million tons of grain and other agricultural products that have been stuck in Black Sea ports due to the war .
  • Moreover , a control centre will be established in Istanbul , staffed by UN , Turkish , Russian and Ukrainian officials .

 

IAPF:

  • The Tokyo – based International Association of Ports and Harbors ( IAPH ) has appointed Ennarasu Karunesan as its official representative in India .He currently serves as an advisor to Indian Ports . IAPH is the global trade association for seaports worldwide .
  • It is headquartered in Tokyo , Japan . Formed in 1955 , it is now recognised as the NGO representing ports worldwide .

 

ECOSOC:

  • India along with six others has voted against a draft resolution presented by the US .The resolution recommended six human rights groups to be granted special consultative status at the UN Economic and Social Council .
  • At the meeting of the 54 – member Economic and Social Council ( ECOSOC ) , the Committee on Non – Governmental Organisations recommended 203 groups for special consultative status .

 

’Golden Visa’:

  • The United Arab Emirates ( UAE ) on 21 July 2022 granted Kamal Haasan , one of the Tamil film industry’s top stars , its prestigious ‘ Golden Visa’ . The UAE Golden Visa is a long – term residence visa system , extending from 5 to 10 years .
  • It is granted to achievers from various fields , professionals and those with promising abilities . UAE President : Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Capital : Abu Dhabi.

 

Sports Events:

Khelo India Fencing Women’s League:

  • The 1st Khelo India Fencing Women’s League will start from 25 July 2022 at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium , New Delhi . The first – of – its – kind national fencing competition for women will take place until 29 July 2022 .
  • It will be held in over three phases . A total of 1 crore 54 lakh has been sanctioned over the conduct of the league . The prize money for each phase will be over 17 lakh rupees .

 

BCCI:

  • Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI ) has introduced a new A + category for umpires in domestic cricket . Nitin Menon , who is currently the only Indian in the ICC Elite Panel , has been placed in the A + category along with 9 other officials .
  • Umpires in A + and A categories will be paid Rs 40,000 a day for a first – class game , while B & C category umpires will be paid Rs 30,000 per day .

 

FIH:

  • The International Hockey Federation ( FIH ) on 20 July 2022 appointed Egypt’s Seif Ahmed as its acting president following Indian administrator Narinder Batra’s resignation from the post .
  • Ahmed played for Egypt’s national team in 1968 & has a long association with Hockey as an umpire . He is a member on the FIH Executive Board since 2001 . FIH Headquarters : Lausanne , Switzerland . Founded : 1924.
