Comparative chart of Various TNPSC Exams and their Eligibility
NOTE: The Maximum age limit for all posts have been increased two times one in 2018 (for two years) & another one time in 2021 (for two years due to COVID). The below maximum age limit are the current official available maximum age limit for each categories or posts.
Group 1
Educational Qualification : Any Degree
Age: Minimum – 21 years.
Maximum – 34 (Other Category) / 39 (SC, SCA, ST, MBC, DNC, BC, BCM & DW)
Differently abled – 10 years over and above the maximum age limit prescribed.
Exam Pattern: Prelims & Mains
Prelims (Objective Type) – General Studies – 200 Questions (300 Marks; 3 Hours)
Mains (Written)
Paper I – Tamil Eligibility – 100 Marks ; 3 Hours
(Paper I is Tamil Eligibility Test of qualifying nature. Getting 40 marks out of 100 will qualify this exam. These marks will not be taken for final selection)
Paper II – 250 Marks ; 3 Hours
Paper III – 250 Marks ; 3 Hours
Paper IV – 250 Marks ; 3 Hours
Interview – 100 Marks
Note: Total score out of 850 Marks (Paper II + III + IV + Interview) will only be considered for final selection)
Group 2 & Group 2A
Educational Qualification : Any Degree
Age: Minimum – 18 years.
Maximum – 32 (Other Category)
For SC, SCA, ST, MBC, DNC, BC, BCM & DW – No Maximum Age Limit
Exam Pattern: Prelims & Mains
Prelims (Objective Type)
Language (General Tamil OR General English) – 100 Questions
General Studies – 75 Questions
Aptitude & Reasoning – 25 Questions
Total – 200 Questions (300 Marks; 3 Hours)
Note: Students has to choose either General English or General Tamil for the first 100 questions.
Mains (Written)
Paper I – Tamil Eligibility – 100 Marks ; 3 Hours.
(Paper I is Tamil Eligibility Test of qualifying nature. Getting 40 marks out of 100 will qualify this exam. These marks will not be taken for final selection)
Paper II – General Studies – 300 Marks ; 3 Hours
Interview – 40 Marks (Only for Group 2 Posts)
NOTE:
- For Group 2 Posts, separate rank list of candidates scored out of 340 will be released.
- for Group 2A Posts, separate rank list of candidates scored out of 300 will be released.
Group 4
Educational Qualification :
Junior Assistant Post: SSLC (10th Std) Pass
Typist Post : SSLC (10th Std) Pass + Government Technical Exam in Typewriting
Steno-Typist Post : SSLC (10th Std) Pass + Government Technical Exam in Typewriting & Shorthand
Computer Preference for Typist & Steno : “Certificate Course in Computer on Office Automation” by the Technical Education Department.
Age: Minimum – 18 years.
Maximum – 32 (Other Category) / 34 (MBC, DNC, BC, BCM) / 37 (SC, SCA, ST, & DW)
VAO:
Educational Qualification : SSLC (10th Std) Pass
Age: Minimum – 21 years.
Maximum – 32 (Other Category) / 42 (SC, SCA, ST, MBC, DNC, BC, BCM & DW)
Exam Pattern (for both Group 4 & VAO): Prelims only
Prelims (Objective Type)
Part A – Compulsory Tamil Eligibility – 100 Questions
Part B – General Studies – 100 Questions
Total – 200 Questions (300 Marks; 3 Hours)
NOTE:
- Final selection will be based on total 300 marks.
- Candidates should score atleast 60 marks out of 150 marks in Part A to qualify this exam.
