National Events:

Dr A. P. J. Abdul Kalam:

  • 7 July 2022 marked 7th death anniversary of former President and Bharat Ratna Dr A. P. J. Abdul Kalam . He was also popularly known as the Missile Man of India .
  • He made significant contribution as Project Director to develop India’s first indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle ( SLV – III ) which successfully injected the Rohini satellite in the near earth orbit in July 1980 .

 

83rd Raising Day of CRPF : 27 July 2022:

  • 27 July 2022 was observed as the 83rd Raising Day of Central Reserve Police Force ( CRPF ) . CRPF , the India’s largest central armed police force came into existence on this day in 1939 .
  • Soon after India’s independence , CRPF got its name with the enactment of the CRPF Act on 28th December in 1949 .It officially works under the Ministry of Home Affairs .

 

Richest woman in India:

  • Roshni Nadar Malhotra , the chairperson of HCL Technologies , is the richest woman in India with a wealth of 84,330 cr .She retained the position for the second year in a row , as per the 3rd ‘ Kotak Private Banking Hurun – Leading Wealthy Women List ‘.
  • Falguni Nayar of Nykaa overtook Kiran Mazumdar – Shaw of Biocon to become the richest self – made woman in India with a wealth of 57,520 cr .

 

SCO:

  • External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar will be on a two day visit to Uzbekistan from 28 July 2022 to take part in the meeting of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers .
  • The meeting will discuss preparations for the upcoming Meeting of the Council of Heads of State on 15th and 16th September 2022 in Samarkand .SCO stands or Shanghai Cooperation Organisation .

 

iDEX:

  • iDEX ( Innovations for Defence Excellence ) , the flagship initiative of the Department of Defence Production , Ministry of Defence , ceremoniously embarked upon the milestone of signing its 100th contract on 26 July 2022 .
  • iDEX framework was launched by PM Narendra Modi in 2018 . It was launched with the objective that it would provide the platform of co – development in the Defence sector .

 

QRFV:

  • Tata group’s arm for aerospace and defence , Tata Advanced Systems Limited ( TASL ) , has delivered an indigenously developed Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicle – Medium ( QRFV ) to the Indian Army .
  • The vehicle will enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Army in future conflicts and war – like situations .Indian Army had earlier inducted Ultra Long Range Observation System earlier.

 

BF Infrastructure & Talgo:

  • Bharat Forge subsidiary BF Infrastructure has partnered with Talgo for manufacturing high speed trains in India .Talgo is a wholly owned subsidiary of Spain – based high speed passenger train manufacturer Patentes Talgo .
  • The joint venture will focus on bringing high – speed rail technology and solution to Indian Railways .It will tap into any upcoming domestic opportunities in the railways .

 

Aditya Birla Health Insurance Co. Ltd & CUB:

  • Aditya Birla Health Insurance Co. Ltd. has announced a bancassurance partnership with City Union Bank ( CUB ) .It is for distribution of health insurance products through the bank’s network of branches in India .
  • This is the third health insurance tie – up for CUB after bancassurance pacts with Star Health and Alliance Insurance ( formerly known as Religare Health Insurance Co ) .

 

ONGC & Greenko Group:

  • ONGC on 26 July 2022 signed an MoU with Greenko Group , to jointly pursue opportunities in renewable energy , green hydrogen , and green ammonia .
  • Under the partnership , the companies will jointly develop a 1 – MMTPA green ammonia production and storage facility in the country for export purposes .
  • Oil and Natural Gas Corporation ( ONGC ) Chairman : Alka Mittal . Headquarters : Dehradun , Uttarakhand.

 

IMF:

  • The International Monetary Fund ( IMF ) on 26 July 2022 slashed India’s growth rate forecast for the financial year 2022-23 to 7.4 % . This forecast is sharply lower than previous estimate of 8.2 % for FY23 .
  • However , it is marginally higher than the RBI’s latest estimate of a 7.2 % growth rate for FY23 . MF’s IMF Headquarters : Washington , D.C. , U.S. Managing Director : Kristalina Georgieva.

 

Competition Commission:

  • Competition Commission has approved Axis Bank’s proposed acquisition of Citi’s consumer business in India , one of the largest deals in the country’s financial services space . This deal worth Rs 12,325 crore was announced on March 30 .
  • Under the deal Axis Bank would take over Citi’s credit cards , personal loans and wealth management businesses that are focused on the affluent segment .

 

Bal Raksha mobile app:

  • Union Minister of Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal on 24 July 2022 launched Bal Raksha mobile app at the All India Institute of Ayurveda ( AIIA ) .The app aims to raise parental awareness of paediatric preventive healthcare through Ayurvedic intervention .
  • Mr Sonowal also inaugurated the ‘ Vaccination Centre for Children ‘ at the AIIA . AllA Founded : 2015. AllA Director : Dr Tanuja Nesari.

 

Tamil Nadu Events:

New Ramsar sites:

  • Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav announced on 26 July 2022 that India has designated five new Ramsar sites or wetlands that are of international importance .
  • These are the Karikili Bird Sanctuary , Pallikaranai Marsh Reserve Forest and Pichavaram Mangrove in Tamil Nadu , the Sakhya Sagar in Madhya Pradesh and Pala Wetland in Mizoram . There are now a total of 54 Ramsar sites in the country .

 

44th Chess Olympiad:

  • The 44th Chess Olympiad kicks off in Chennai from 28 July 2022 . It will be held till 10th August 2022 . The prestigious competition , which is being organised since 1927 , is being hosted in India for the first time and after 30 years in Asia .
  • 189 countries from around the world will participate in this competition . Thambi is the official mascot of the 44th Chess Olympiad .

 

Japan’s Sakurajima:

  • Japan’s Sakurajima volcano , located on the island of Kyushu , erupted , prompting evacuations in the region .The authorities have raised the alert level to the highest level of 5 .
  • Earlier this year , on January 15 , The Hunga Tonga volcano eruption destroyed the uninhabited island of Hunga Tonga Ha’apai . It is now officially the largest explosive eruption of the 21st century .

 

International Events:

ISS:

  • Russia has decided to quit the International Space Station ( ISS ) after 2024 . Moscow’s space agency Roscosmos’s new chief Yury Borisov announced this decision on 26 July 2022 .
  • ISS is a multinational collaborative project involving 5 participating space agencies : NASA ( United States ) , Roscosmos ( Russia ) , JAXA ( Japan ) , ESA ( Europe ) , & CSA ( Canada ) .It has been in Earth’s orbit since 1998 .

 

World Mangrove Day : 26 July:

  • World Mangrove Day is celebrated annually on 26 July . Mangroves are rare ecosystems on the boundary between land & sea . They are essential for the preservation of coastal communities .
  • This day aims to promote the conservation & sustainable growth of mangrove ecosystems . It is also known as ‘ International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem . It was first celebrated in 2015 .

 

Sports Events:

2025 Women’s ODI World Cup:

  • The International Cricket Council ( ICC ) announced on 26 July 2022 that India will host the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup .This will be the first time in over a decade that India will be hosting the tournament .
  • India had last hosted the women’s World Cup in 2013 . Bangladesh will host the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup while the 2026 edition will be held in England . ICC Headquarters : Dubai , UAE.

 

“Create for India”:

  • Sports Authority of India ( SAI ) has launched the ” Create for India ” campaign to boost the enthusiasm of Team India in the upcoming 2022 Commonwealth Games ( CWG ) . The 2022 CWG are scheduled to be held in Birmingham , England from 28 July to 8 August 2022 .
  • A 215 – member Indian athlete contingent across 16 disciplines will participate in this event . SAI Director – General : Sandip Pradhan.
