National Events:

Prohibition of Unlawful Activities Act:

  • Parliament has passed the Weapon of Mass Destruction and their Delivery Systems ( Prohibition of Unlawful Activities ) Amendment Bill 2022 .
  • It seeks to amend the Weapons of Mass Destruction and their Delivery Systems ( Prohibition of Unlawful Activities ) Act , 2005 .
  • The 2005 Act prohibits unlawful activities such as manufacturing , transport or transfer related to weapons of mass destruction .

 

ITBP:

  • Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal , SSB Dr. Sujoy Lal Thaosen on 1 August 2022 took over the additional charge of Director General of Indo – Tibetan Border Police in New Delhi . Raised in 1962 , The ITBP guards Indo – China borders .

 

Plan to provide milk and eggs to children at all anganwadis:

  • Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated a project of the Women and Child Development department to provide milk and eggs to children at all anganwadis in the state.
  • Kerala government has set aside over Rs 61.5 crore to include milk and eggs in the anganwadi menu .Each child will be given 125 ml of milk two days a week for 44 weeks ( 10 months ) and an egg twice a week .

 

National Highway projects:

  • Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 6 National Highway projects of 119 km worth Rs 2300 cr in Indore , MP .
  • The development of the Dhar – Pithampur Industrial Corridor will create new employment opportunities .
  • An MoU was signed between the state government and NHAI for the construction of ropeways at 14 selected places in MadhyaPradesh .

 

Competition ( Amendment ) Bill:

  • Competition ( Amendment ) Bill , 2022 is going to be presented in the ongoing session of Parliament .
  • The Bill proposes individual members of the six – member board to decide on cases . Businesses accused of anti – competitive practices should be allowed to settle cases by negotiating with the CCI .
  • An expansion of the prohibited anti – competitive agreements to cover new – age marketing arrangements .

 

IRDAI:

  • IRDAI has tightened the anti – money laundering rules . The key change is that exemptions & relaxations from the guidelines for companies have been done away with .
  • Now no life , general , or health insurer can claim any relaxations to comply with money – laundering rules , as set out by the RBI .
  • IRDAI has also made ‘ level of risk assessment ‘ a function of the size of the business of the companies .

 

PIB:

  • Satyendra Prakash on 1 August 2022 assumed charge as Principal Director General of the Press Information Bureau ( PIB ) . He is an Indian Information Service officer of the 1988 batch .

 

5G spectrum auctions:

  • India’s first ever 5G spectrum auctions has ended with the government netting a record over 1,50,173 crore .
  • Reliance Jio was the top bidder , bidding a cumulative 88,078 crore for 24,740 MHz of airwaves .

 

’Gun Hill’:

  • To commemorate the victory of Indian armed forces and pay tribute to the supreme sacrifice of the Gunners in ” Operation Vijay ” , Point 5140 at Drass in Kargil has been christened as ‘ Gun Hill ‘.
  • The capture of Point 5140 by the Indian armed forces , was the key factor in the early completion of the 1999 Kargil war . On July 26 , 1999 , the Indian Army declared victory in ‘ Operation Vijay .

 

Odisha & FICCI:

  • Odisha & the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry ( FICCI ) signed an MoU making FICCI the National Industry Partner for the Make in Odisha ( MIO ) Conclave 2022 .
  • To attract investors & entrepreneurs from around the world , the 3rd edition of the MIO conclave is scheduled to be held from November 30th to December 4th , 2022 . Odisha CM : Naveen Patnaik. FICCI President : Sanjiv Mehta.

 

Fly till the age of 65:

  • Air India has decided to allow its pilots to fly till they are 65 . DGCA allows pilots to fly till the age of 65 years , compared to the Air India retirement age of 58 years .
  • Allowing pilots to fly till the age of 65 is a practice followed by most airlines in the industry . Post – retirement the Air India pilots will be hired on a contractual basis for 5 years .

 

Tamil Nadu Events:

2nd Airport near Chennai:

  • The Tamil Nadu government has chosen Paranthur in Kanchipuram district to build the 2nd airport near Chennai.
  • Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation VK Singh said in the Rajya Sabha that the Tamil Nadu government has taken this decision considering the costs including land acquisition for setting up the airport.

 

International Events:

World Wide Web Day : 1 August:

  • World Wide Web Day is observed on the 1st of August every year .It is an annual event that celebrates the history , development , and worldwide impact of the World Wide Web ( WWW ) .
  • The WWW was created by English computer scientist Tim Berners – Lee in 1989 in Switzerland . He developed the essentials of the web like HTTP , HTML , the WorldWide Web browser , a server , and the first website .

 

Sports Events:

UEFA European Women’s Football Championship:

  • England on 31 July 2022 won the 2022 UEFA European Women’s Football Championship at Wembley Stadium in London . It is the first time since 1966 that England won an international trophy .
  • The Euro 2022 was the 13th edition of the UEFA Women’s Championship which took place from 6 July to 31 July 2022 in England .
