National Events:

49th Chief Justice of India:

President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Justice Uday Umesh Lalit as the 49th Chief Justice of India ( CJI ) .He will succeed Justice NV Ramana , who will retire on 26 August 2022 .
Justice Lalit was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court in 2014 . He will become the second CJI to be directly elevated to the Supreme Court from the Bar.

Union Home Minister’s Medal:

The ” Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation ” for the year 2022 have been awarded to 151 Police personnel .
Among the personnel , 15 are from CBI , 11 are from Maharashtra Police , 10 each are from MadhyaPradsh and UttarPradesh Police , 8 each are from Kerala Police , Rajasthan Police and West Bengal Police . These awardees also include 28 women police officers .

Gaganyaan:

Gaganyaan’s Low Altitude Escape Motor ( LEM ) of crew escape system was successfully test – fired from Sriharikota spaceport , in August 2022 . The system takes away the crew module of Gaganyaan mission in case of any eventuality and rescues the astronauts .
The main objectives of the static tests are to evaluate motor ballistic parameters , validate motor subsystem performance , etc.

NHIDCL & NSDC:

An MoU was signed between NHIDCL ( National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited ) and NSDC ( National Skill Development Corporation ) .
The purpose of this MoU is to take up multiple initiatives contributing towards making India the skill capital of the world . Both NHIDCL and NSDC are headquartered in New Delhi .

National Conference of Rural Cooperative Banks:

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the National Conference of Rural Cooperative Banks in New Delhi on 12 August 2022 . It was organized by the Ministry of Cooperation and the National Federation of State Cooperative Banks ( NAFSCOB ) .
Amit Shah also presented Performance Awards to State Cooperative Banks , and District Central Cooperative Banks ( DCCBS ) .

Atal Pension Yojana:

Income – tax payers will not be allowed to enroll in the government’s pension security scheme Atal Pension Yojana ( APY ) from October 1 , a statement by Finance Ministry said . Income – tax payer enrolled before October 1 will continue in the scheme .
Earlier this month , Minister of state for finance Bhagwat Karad said that till July 21 around 4.31 crore subscribers had enrolled under APY .

Dabur India Ltd:

Chairman of Dabur India Ltd , Amit Burman has resigned from his post . Mohit Burman has been elevated to the position of non – executive chairman of the Board of Directors of Dabur India Limited with effect from August 11 for a period of 5 years .
Amit will continue to remain the non – executive director of the fast – moving consumer goods ( FMCG ) company .

PMAY-U:

The Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban ( PMAY – U ) till December 2024 . It was launched in 2015 & the original deadline for the scheme was March 2022 .
This scheme is one of the major flagship programmes being implemented by the Central Government to provide pucca houses to all eligible beneficiaries in the urban areas of the country .

North East Olympics:

Meghalaya will host the upcoming 2nd edition of the North East Olympics from 30 October to 6 November 2022 in Shillong . The 1st edition of the Games was held in Manipur in 2018 , with 12 disciplines .
In this edition , about 4,000 participants from 8 North Eastern states will compete in 18 disciplines at 13 venues spread across Shillong . Meghalaya Governor : Satya Pal Malik . CM : Conrad Sangma.

Navi Mutual Fund:

Navi Mutual Fund has launched its 6th fund for 2022 , the Navi Nifty India Manufacturing Index Fund .
This is India’s 1st open – ended index fund that will seek to replicate the Nifty India Manufacturing Index , which tracks the performance of manufacturers among the top 300 companies in India .
It aims to simplify investing in the Indian manufacturing sector . Navi Group Founded : 2018.

Cricketer Rishabh Pant:

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami on 11 August 2022 named cricketer Rishabh Pant as the brand ambassador of the state . He plays as a middle – order wicket – keeper – batter for the Indian cricket team .
In IPL , he represents Delhi Capitals and is captain of the team .Uttarakhand Capital : Gairsain ( summer ) , Dehradun ( winter ).

‘Fish & Seafood -a collection of 75 gourmet recipes’:

Minister of Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Parshottam Rupala on 10 August 2022 launched a unique coffee table book titled ‘ Fish & Seafood -a collection of 75 gourmet recipes ‘ in New Delhi .
The Department of Fisheries has come up with this initiative to boost the domestic consumption of fish and seafood , along with popularizing the local fish species .

India & Australia:

The Union Cabinet has approved the signing of an audio – visual co – production treaty between India & Australia with the view to promote the co – production of films . These are umbrella agreements under which private , quasi – government or governmental agencies enter contracts to produce films together .
India has , so far , signed 15 audio – visual co – production treaties with foreign countries .

Adani Enterprises Ltd:

Government has approved 10 industrial projects worth 74,620.18 crores including a 4 million tonne per annum capacity alumina refinery proposed by Adani Enterprises Ltd.
The Adani group is planning to invest ₹ 41,653 crore for the alumina refinery and 175 megawatt capacity captive power plant ( CPP ) at Kashipur of Rayagada district . Odisha possesses more than half of India’s bauxite reserve .

International Events:

World Elephant Day : 12 August:

World Elephant Day is observed on August 12 every year . The day was first observed on August 12 , 2012 .
World Elephant Day was co – founded by Canadian filmmaker Patricia Sims and the Elephant Reintroduction Foundation of Thailand , an initiative of HM Queen Sirikit .
Since 2012 , the day is marked with an aim to reach out to people and educate them on the plight of elephants .

International Youth Day : 12 August:

International Youth Day is commemorated every year on 12 August . It is celebrated to spread awareness about the role of young people in tackling global issues and achieving sustainable development .
International Youth Day was designated by the United Nations in 1999 & was first observed on 12 August , 2000 . Theme 2022 : ” Intergenerational solidarity : Creating a world for all ages “.

Sports Events:

1st Khelo India Women’s Hockey League:

1st Khelo India Women’s Hockey League under – 16 will be held at the Major Dhyanchand Stadium in New Delhi from 16-23 August 2022 . A total of 16 teams from across the country are participating .
56 matches will be played and over 300 players will compete in Phase 1 of the league . The Sports Authority of India has allocated Rs 53.72 lakh for 3 phases , which includes prize money of Rs 15.5 lakh .
