National Events:

Justice Uday Umesh Lalit:

Justice Uday Umesh Lalit was sworn – in as Chief Justice of India on 27 Aug’22. President Draupadi Murmu administered him oath as the 49th Chief Justice of India at Rashtrapati Bhawan. He succeeds Justice NV Ramana , who retired yesterday.
He will be in office for 74 days , a tenure shorter than average.In past , he was involved in the landmark judgement in the Triple Talaq case.

Pinaka extended range rocket:

DRDO carried out trials of the Pinaka extended range rocket at the Pokharan firing ranges in Rajasthan. The Pinaka rocket has been developed by DRDO.
However , they have been produced by private sector firm. The Pinaka is an Artillery Missile System capable of striking into enemy territory up to a range of 75 kilometers with high precision.

AK-630 guns:

In a major boost for achieving indigenisation in the armed forces , the Indian Navy will use 100 % indigenous 30 mm high explosive AK – 630 guns.
The ammunition fitted for warships has been produced by a private company Solar Group’s Economic Explosives.
It was manufactured , tested and delivered within 12 months with propellant sources from the Bhandara Ordnance Factory in Nagpur.

Anang Tal lake:

The Anang Tal lake in South Delhi has been declared a monument of national importance. Anang Tal Lake dates back to 1,060 AD. It was built by the 11th Century Tomar king Anang Pal Tomar.
The Monuments of National Importance are designated by the Archaeological Survey of India ( ASI ). Once designated , the ASI restricts construction activity in the site’s vicinity.

Best aspirational district:

The NITI Aayog has declared Haridwar as the best aspirational district in India. It has secured the first rank in basic infrastructure theme and thus has become entitled to receive an additional allocation of 3 crores from the Central Government.
The aspirational Districts Programme was launched in 2018. It aims to effectively transform the 112 most under – developed districts across the country.

3D-Printed post office:

The first 3D – printed post office in India will come up in Karnataka’s capital Bengaluru. This 3D – printed post office is expected to cut construction costs down to one – fourth the amount spent on a traditional model.
It is being constructed by L & T in Halasuru , Bengaluru. L & T is the only company currently in India utilising 3D printing technology for construction.

International Events:

NASA’s Artemis 1:

NASA’s Artemis 1 mission will be launched on 29 August 2022 . ” The spacecraft is scheduled to travel to the Moon , deploy some small satellites and then settle into orbit. Artemis 1 is going to be the first flight of the new Space Launch System.
It will be the most powerful rocket engine ever flown to space , even more powerful than Apollo’s Saturn V system.

World Water Week : August 23 to September 1:

World Water Week is an annual conference held in the last week of August every year. In 2022 , the event is being held from August 23 to September 1.
It aims to draw the attention of the world to the water crisis and the sustainable use of water. It is organised by the Stockholm International Water Institute. It was first held in 1991. 2022 theme : ‘ Seeing the Unseen : The Value of Water ‘.
