National Events:

Rajesh Kumar Srivastava:

  • Rajesh Kumar Srivastava has been appointed as the new interim chairman of ONGC. Srivastava succeeds Alka Mittal , who officiated as the chairman until 31 August 2022.
  • Srivastava joined ONGC in 1984 and rose through the ranks to the position of Director ( Exploration ) in 2019. The government also appointed M V lyer as the interim chairman at GAIL.

 

PM Modi:

  • PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the second phase of the Kochi Metro project on 1 September 2022. He also inaugurated the first phase extension linking S N Junction and Vadakkekotta at a function in Kochi.
  • He also dedicated to the nation three other railway projects. The phase two corridor of the Kochi Metro project covers a distance of 11. 2 km. It is estimated to cost Rs 1957 cr.

 

GDP:

  • The GDP of the country for the April – June quarter of the current financial year grew at 13.5 %.
  • According to the provisional estimates by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation , in the first quarter of fiscal 2022-23 , Agriculture , Forestry & Fishing sector rose 4.5 per cent.
  • The manufacturing sector grew 4.8 % and the Construction sector appreciated by 16.8 %.

 

National Nutrition Week : 1 to 7 September:

  • National Nutrition Week is observed every year from September 1-7 to raise awareness regarding proper eating habits and Nutrition.
  • Aim : To educate people on the importance of nutrition , a healthy lifestyle & a balanced diet.
  • The Indian government first introduced this week – long campaign in 1982. As per the Global Hunger Index Report 2021 , India ranks 101 among 116 countries.

 

Cabinet Committee on Security:

  • The Cabinet Committee on Security have cleared the development of LCA Mark 2 fighter aircraft. It would be a replacement for the Mirage 2000 , Jaguar and MiG – 29 combat aircraft in the Indian Air Force.
  • The DRDO would be developing the aircraft with a GE – 414 engine which is the advanced version of the GE – 404s.

 

Electric Vehicle Policy:

  • The Rajasthan government has come up with its electric vehicle policy to encourage the purchase EVs the state.
  • Under the Rajasthan Electric Vehicle Policy ( REVP ) , the government has sanctioned a fund of ₹ 40 crore for contribution to the purchase of electric vehicles.
  • The EV policy will be for a period of five years from September 1 , 2022.

 

eAwas:

  • Home Minister Amit Shah launched the Central Armed Police Forces ‘ eAwas web – portal in New Delhi on 1 September 2022.
  • It has been developed in order to operationalise the revised policy of allotment and to also bring transparency to the allotment process.
  • The web – portal will enable online registration and allotment of residential quarters to eligible personnel of CAPFs and Assam Rifles.

 

CERT-In:

  • Indian Computer Emergency Response Team ( CERT – In ) under the Ministry of Electronics and IT successfully designed and conducted the Cyber Security Exercise ” Synergy ” for 13 Countries on 31 August 2022.
  • It was held in collaboration with the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore The theme of the exercise was ” Building Network Resiliency to counter Ransomware Attacks “.

 

Shumang Leela Festival:

  • The 50th Manipur Shumang Leela Festival began at Iboyama Shumang Leela Shanglen , Imphal.
  • Manipur Governor La Ganesan and CM N. Biren Singh attended the inaugural function.
  • Shumang Leela is a traditional form of theatre in Manipur where the roles of female artists are all played by male actors and vice versa.
  • Originally Shumang Leela began as a comedy genre presented to kings and nobles.

 

67th Filmfare Awards 2022 : Winners:

  • The 67th Filmfare Awards were given out on 30 August 2022 at Jio World Centre , Mumbai.The 67th edition of the awards honoured the films released in 2021.

The Winners are:

Best Director : Vishnuvardhan for ‘ Shershaah ‘

Best Actor : Ranveer Singh for ‘ 83 ‘

Best Actress : Kriti Sanon for ‘ Mimi ‘

Best Film ( Critics ‘ Choice ) : ‘ Sardar Udham ‘

Best Film ( Popular Category ) : ‘ Shershaah ‘

 

Mahindra Finance:

  • Mahindra Finance has partnered with CRIF Solutions Private ( CRIF ) to a seamless onboarding experience for customers seeking loans.
  • Mahindra Finance would now leverage an automated decisioning platform Strategy One – A Forrester rated Enterprise Business Rules Engine provided by CRIF , to integrate its customer acquisition channels across multiple retail asset product lines.

 

AICTE & Adobe:

  • The All – India Council for Technical Education ( AICTE ) has signed an agreement with US – based Adobe to accelerate digital creativity skills across India.
  • Aim : to empower over 75,000 educators across 10,000 higher education institutions with essential digital creativity skills by 2024. Adobe will also offer courses and expertise for upskilling educators.

 

International Events:

Sri Lankan government & IMF:

  • The Sri Lankan government and International Monetary Fund ( IMF ) have reached a preliminary agreement for a loan of 2.9 billion dollars.
  • It will support the country’s economic policies with 48 – month arrangement under Extended Fund Facility. Sri Lanka’s new Fund – supported programme aims to restore macroeconomic stability and debt sustainability.

 

First edition of the ” World Health Summit for Pride of Homoeopathy “:

  • The first edition of the ” World Health Summit for Pride of Homoeopathy ” was held in Dubai on 29 August 2022.
  • Aim : to promote a homoeopathic system of medicine , drugs , and practices .Theme of summit : ” Diseases caused by climate change and global warming “.

 

Sports Events:

AFI & HSBC India:

  • Athletics Federation of India ( AFI ) has partnered with HSBC India to support women athletes of the country , especially the youngsters.
  • Under the partnership , promising girls will be picked from the National Inter District Championships for Under – 14 and Under – 16 categories and would be nurtured to perform on the global stage. Selected athletes will receive training in Special coaching camps.
