National Events:

National SC-ST Hub:

  • The Ministry of MSME hosted the National SC – ST Hub Conclave in Ahmedabad , Gujarat , to raise awareness of the National SC – ST Hub Scheme and other Ministry programmes.
  • More than 300 SC – ST business owners attended the event. To assist SC – ST MSE participants , the conference provided facilitation stations for UDYAM Registration and GeM Registration.

 

Pullampara Village panchayat:

  • The Pullumpara village panchayat in the Thiruvananthapuram district , Kerala has become the first totally digitally literate panchayat in the country.
  • The announcement was made by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan at a public event. Governor : Arif Mohammad Khan. Capital : Thiruvananthapuram. Chief minister : Pinarayi Vijayan.

 

Fit India Freedm Run 3.0:

  • In honour of Gandhi Jayanti , Fit India Freedom Run 3.0 was launched at the Major Dhyanchand National Stadium in New Delhi.
  • The third edition of Fit India Plog Run was jointly introduced by Union Ministers of Law and Justice Shri Kiren Rijiju and Shri Anurag Singh Thakur. October 2 , marked the beginning of the third iteration of the Fit India Freedom Run , which will last until October 31.

 

’herSTART’:

  • President Droupadi Murmu on 4th Oct 2022 launched ‘ herSTART’ , a startup platform for women entrepreneurs created by Gujarat University in Ahmedabad. This initiative will link women entrepreneurs with various private and government platforms.
  • The President also inaugurated 5 high schools for tribals & 5 infrastructure projects of the education dept. This is the President’s first visit to Gujarat.

 

Ayodhya Cantonment:

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on 4th Oct 2022 approved changing the name of Faizabad Cantonment in Uttar Pradesh to Ayodhya Cantonment.
  • Earlier , the Faizabad district in UP was also renamed Ayodhya in November 2018. A cantonment is a military or police quarter. ” There are 62 ” notified cantonments ” in India , occupying an area of 157,000 acres.

 

Director General Ordnance ( C & S ):

  • Sanjeev Kishore , a 1985 batch officer of the Indian Ordnance Factory Service ( IOFS ) , has ken over as the Director General Ordnance ( C & S ) with effect from 1st October 2022.
  • He has replaced M K Garg. Before taking over the post , Kishore was the additional director general ordnance at the Directorate of Ordnance ( Coordination & Services ) , Kolkata.

 

IMC 2022:

  • The 4 – day long , 6th edition of the India Mobile Congress concluded on 4th of Oct 2022 in New Delhi. Some of the highlights of IMC 2022 event are : 5G services launched by PM Narendra Modi.
  • IMC 2022 hosted 362 speakers , 13,500 participants in 80 sessions and over 1.07 lakh visitors. It started on 1st of Oct and concluded on 4th of Oct 2022. It was organised at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.

 

International Events:

World Teachers ‘ Day : 5th October:

  • World Teachers ‘ Day , also known as International Teachers ‘ Day , is celebrated on 5th October every year. This is a day to celebrate , thank & honour teachers for their contributions to their students.
  • Oct 5 was proclaimed as World Teachers ‘ Day by UNESCO in 1994. 2022 Theme : ” The transformation of education begins with teachers “. Teachers Day in India is celebrated on 5th Sept every year.

 

Riyadh International Book Fair Award:

  • The Saudi Literature , Publishing and Translation Commission has launched Riyadh International Book Fair Award.
  • The Riyadh International Book Fair 2022 kicked off on September 29 with the theme of ” Cultural Chapters ” , which will last for 10 days until October 8. Around 1,200 publishing houses , representing 32 countries are participating in the exhibition . Tunisia is attending as a guest of honor.

 

Nansen Award:

  • Former German chancellor Angela Merkel on 4th Oct 2022 won the United Nations refugee agency’s prestigious Nansen Award. She has been awarded for welcoming more than 1.2 million refugees and asylum seekers in Germany in 2015 and 2016.
  • The Nansen Award , awarded annually , was created in 1954 in honour of the first UN High Commissioner for Refugees ( UNHCR ) , Fridtjof Nansen. UNHCR HQ : Geneva.

 

SASTRA Ramanujan Prize:

  • The SASTRA Ramanujan Prize for 2022 will be awarded to Yunqing Tang , Assistant Professor at the University California , U.S.
  • The award was instituted by the Shanmugha Arts , Science , Technology & Research Academy ( SASTRA ) in 2005 with a cash prize of $ 10,000. It is presented annually to individuals aged 32 & below , who made outstanding contributions in the field of mathematics.

 

Sports Events:

FIBA:

  • The United States defeated China ( 83-61 ) to win the International Basketball Federation ( FIBA ) Women’s Basketball World Cup at the Sydney Superdome , Australia.
  • The Americans bagged their fourth title in a row and 11th in total and have also sealed a spot at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

 

ROI:

  • Rest of India ( ROI ) defeated Saurashtra by eight wickets at the Saurashtra Cricket Stadium , Rajkot , to win the Irani Cup title on 4th October 2022. It was the Rest of India’s 29th Irani Trophy title. Irani Cup is a test match format cricket tournament in India.
  • It is played annually between the incumbent Ranji Trophy winner and the Rest of India cricket team. First edition : 1959-60.
