National Events:

Union Home Minister Amit Shah:

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of four projects worth over Rs 6,600 cr in Faridabad in Haryana.
  • The projects include Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor project and Rail Coach Refurbishment Factory at Sonipat worth 590 crore rupees which spreads over 161 acre of land.
  • He also inaugurated Haryana Police Residence Complex , Bhondsi worth 105 crore rupees.

 

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh:

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh dedicated to the nation 75 infrastructure projects built by the Border Roads Organisation ( BRO ) across six states and two Union Territories ( UTS ).
  • These strategically important projects have been constructed at a total cost of 2,180 crore by the BRO in record time. The 75 projects comprise 45 bridges , 27 roads , two helipads and one carbon neutral habitat.

 

Umesh Mishra:

  • Rajasthan government has appointed the state police’s intelligence chief Umesh Mishra as the next Rajasthan Director General of Police.
  • Mishra , who is currently Director General , Intelligence , is a 1989 batch Indian Police Service ( IPS ) officer.
  • He will get a two – year term. Umesh Mishra will take over as the state police chief from ML Lather on his retirement on November 3 , 2022.

 

Reliance Industries Limited:

  • Reliance Industries Limited ( RIL ) posted the proceedings of its second quarter earnings call on the metaverse. The announcement made Reliance the first Indian firm to use the medium to engage with its stakeholders.
  • The metaverse earnings call , which can be accessed through any device ( even a smartphone ) , was produced in partnership with GMetri — a no – code metaverse creation platform.

 

SIMBEX:

  • The Indian Navy is hosting the 29th edition of the Singapore – India Maritime Bilateral Exercise ( SIMBEX ) from 26-30 October 2022 at Visakhapatnam.
  • SIMBEX – 2022 is being conducted in 2 phases – Harbour Phase at Visakhapatnam from 26 to 27 October 2022 followed by the Sea Phase in Bay of Bengal from 28 to 30 October.
  • SIMBEX series of exercises began in 1994 and were initially known as Exercise Lion King.

 

C-295:

  • Indian multinational conglomerate Tata in partnership with Airbus will manufacture C – 295 transport aircraft for the Indian Air Force at Vadodara in Gujarat.
  • This is the first project of its kind in which a military aircraft will be manufactured in India by a private company.
  • As part of the contract , 16 aircraft will be delivered in flyaway condition and 40 will be manufactured in India.

 

OM:

  • Scientists at the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism , Mumbai have developed an indigenous Overhauser Magnetometer ( OM ). OM is one the most accurate magnetometers extensively used by magnetic observatories around the world.
  • It has been installed at Alibag Magnetic Observatory. It will help reduce India’s dependence on commercial magnetometers for performing geomagnetic field measurements.

 

A K Goel:

  • A K Goel , Managing Director & CEO , Punjab National Bank ( PNB ) , has been re – elected as the Chairman of the Indian Banks ‘ Association ( IBA ) for the term 2022-23. Goel was previously elected as IBA’s chairman in 2021.
  • Before PNB , Goel was the MD & CEO of UCO Bank. IBA HQ : Mumbai. IBA was set up in 1946 to look after the interests of the banking industry. Membership of the Association : 237.

 

SAIL:

  • Steel Authority of India Limited ( SAIL ) has crossed Rs 10,000 crore in Procurement Value on Government – e – Marketplace ( GeM ). GeM portal launched : 2016.
  • With this , SAIL has become the 1st Central Public Sector Enterprise to achieve the major milestone of procurement through the GeM portal since inception.
  • It is a completely paperless e – marketplace that enables procurement of common – use goods.

 

SAFAL:

  • Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik on 27th Oct 2022 launched a common credit portal ‘ SAFAL ‘ for farmers in the state. It is India’s 1st online agricultural credit facilitation portal.
  • It will enable farmers & agri – entrepreneurs to access over 300 term loan products from more than 40 banks.
  • It will also provide the government with complete visibility of demand & disbursal of formal credit across the state.

 

Haryana government:

  • Amid an increase in the recent incidents of dog bites and attacks , the Haryana government has made the registration of pet dogs mandatory in the state.
  • No person will be allowed keep a dog without a licence and for this , the pet owners will have to get themselves registered on the Saral Portal.
  • If a person is found violating the rules , a fine of Rs 5,000 will be imposed. Haryana CM : ML Khattar.

 

GMR Goa International Airport Limited:

  • The Directorate General of Civil Aviation ( DGCA ) has granted aerodrome licence to GMR Goa International Airport at Mopa. With this , Goa will now have two airports , the other airport is at Dabolim in South Goa.
  • The new airport at Mopa in North Goa has been built by GMR Goa International Airport Limited ( GGIAL ) , a subsidiary of GMR Airports Ltd. Goa CM : Pramod Sawant.

 

International Events:

Elon Musk:

  • The world’s richest man , Elon Musk , has completed his $ 44bn ( £ 38.1bn ) takeover of Twitter. A number of top executives , including CEO Parag Agrawal , have been fired.
  • Twitter , Inc. is an American communications company based in San Francisco , California. The company operates the microblogging and social networking service Twitter . It was founded on 21 March 2006.

 

12th World Hindi Conference:

  • Fiji will be hosting the 12th World Hindi Conference next year from Feb 15-17 , 2023. With this , Fiji will become the first country in the Pacific to hold the World Hindi Conference. The 3 – day conference would be held in the Fijian city of Nadi.
  • External affairs Minister S Jaishankar will lead the Indian delegation for the Conference. Fijian Hindi is enshrined in the constitution of Fiji as an official language.

 

OAG:

  • The Indira Gandhi International Airport , New Delhi has emerged as the world’s 10th busiest airport in October 2022 , according to a report by the UK – based aviation analytics firm OAG.
  • Delhi airport has improved its position from 14th place in October 2019 , as per the report. Hartsfield – Jackson Atlanta International Airport in the US has emerged as the busiest in the world in October 2022.

 

Shefali Juneja:

  • Shefali Juneja , India’s representative to the International Civil Aviation Organization ( ICAO ) , has been elected as the chairperson of UN’s specialized aviation agency’s Air Transport Committee ( ATC ). India has secured this position in ICAO after 28 years.
  • Juneja is also the first woman to represent India in the ICAO. ATC is a committee of the ICAO created by the Chicago Convention in 1944.
