National Events:

Shilp Guru and National Awards:

  • Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar gave away Shilp Guru and National Awards to master crafts persons for 2017, 2018, and 2019 at a function in New Delhi on 28 November 2022.
  • They are conferred every year to legendary master crafts persons of handicrafts whose work has contributed to the preservation of the rich and diverse craft heritage of the country. The awardees represent almost all states and UTS.

 

RTI:

  • The Supreme Court has launched an online portal that will help citizens file and access applications under the Right to Information (RTI) Act in matters related to the court.
  • The online RTI portal has been initiated to make it convenient for people to access information about the Supreme Court. So far, RTI applications at the Supreme Court had to be filed only via post.

 

Champions of the Earth award:

  • Indian wildlife biologist Dr Purnima Devi Barman has been awarded with Champions of the Earth award in the Entrepreneurial vision category. This is UN’s highest environmental honour. She is the founder of the Hargila Army.
  • The Champions of the Earth is an appreciation for innovative ways implemented by the awardees across the world to support nature’s extraordinary capacity for renewal.

 

IFFI:

  • The 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) concluded in Goa on 28 November 2022. The closing ceremony was held at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium near Panaji.
  • Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi was given the Indian Film Personality of the Year 2022 award at the closing ceremony.
  • The Polish film ‘Perfect Number’ directed by Krzysztof Zanussi, was the closing film of IFFI 2022.

 

Armed Forces Flag Day Corporate Social Responsibility Conclave:

  • The fourth edition of the Armed Forces Flag Day Corporate Social Responsibility Conclave is being organised in New Delhi on 29 Nov 2022. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will be the chief guest at the event.
  • A new website for the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund will be launched by him. He will also release the anthem for 2022’s promotional campaign for the Armed Forces Flag Day.

G20:

  • India held a briefing for envoys from G20 nations in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 26 November 2022. India took over leadership of the G20 group from Indonesia, where the recent G20 Summit concluded in Bali.
  • The G20 or Group of Twenty is an intergovernmental forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union. Founded: 26 September 1999.

 

NCC:

  • The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is celebrating the 74th anniversary of its Raising Day on 27 November 2022. NCC Day is observed on the fourth Sunday of November.
  • The NCC was raised on 15th July 1948 in New Delhi, which was the fourth Sunday of the November month in 1948. It is the largest uniformed youth organisation in the world.

 

ABU:

  • The government of India is hosting the 59th Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) General Assembly 2022 from 25th to 30th November 2022 in New Delhi. Prasar Bharti was set up in 1997 by an act of Parliament.
  • Around 300 international delegates from 40 countries are participating in the event. The theme of the 59th ABU General Assembly is: ‘Serving the People & Media’s Role in Times of Crisis’.

 

E-Panchayat Mission Mode Project:

  • E-Panchayat Mission Mode Project (eGramSwaraj and AuditOnline) of Ministry of Panchayati Raj has won the Award of the National Awards for e-Governance.
  • It was given under the category “Excellence in Government Process Re-engineering for Digital Transformation”. The award was given during the 25th National Conference on e-Governance at Jammu on 26 November 2022.

 

AQCS:

  • The Union Minister Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Balyan inaugurated the Animal Quarantine Certificatio Services (AQCS) at Hessarghata, Bengaluru on 25 November 2022. There are six AQCS in India under the Department of Animal Husbandry.
  • The aim of setting up Quarantine Stations is to prevent the spread of dangerous exotic diseases into the country through imported livestock and livestock products.

 

Clean-a-thon:

  • The Clean-a-thon was organized at the Miramar Beach Goa on 28 Nov 2022. The event is a collaborative effort by Government of Goa, IFFI, Divyaj Foundation and Bhamla Foundation.
  • The clean-a-thon will continue at multiple places by the volunteers of the Divyaj and Bhamla Foundations in association with volunteers from Government of Goa.

 

India as the President of the G20 grouping:

  • Bengaluru will host a meeting of G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors in February 2023 during India’s tenure as the President of the G20 grouping. G20 is a grouping of the world’s 20 largest economies.
  • India will host the Summit in 2023 as part of a rotating presidency. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman informed that G20 meetings would take place in different parts of India.

 

Har Ghar Gangajal:

  • Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar launched the Har Ghar Gangajal project in Rajgir on 27 November. It is a unique and ambitious initiative to provide Ganga water on tap in the parched areas of the state.
  • The scheme will help to harvest the excess water of the Ganga during the monsoon season. Har Ghar Gangajal is part of the Bihar government’s Jal, Jeevan, Hariyali scheme.

 

Leh Hill Council:

  • Union Territory of Ladakh has doubled the remuneration of the members of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils in Leh and Kargil.
  • Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils are district-level democratic institutions that involve decentralization of the planning process with the involvement of people at the grass root level. Leh Hill Council came into existence in 1995.

 

International Events:

Canada:

  • Canada has launched its long – awaited Indo – Pacific strategy, outlining 1.7 billion US dollars in spending to boost military and cyber security in the region.
  • The plan detailed in a 26-page document said Canada will tighten foreign investment rules to protect intellectual property. Canada is seeking to deepen ties with a fast – growing Indo-Pacific region of 40 countries.

 

Sahel:

  • French Prez Emmanuel Macron announced the end of the Operation Barkhane in Africa’s Sahel Region.
  • The ops began in Jan 2013. The objective was to assist local armed forces to prevent the resurgence of non-state armed groups across the region.
  • The Sahel is the ecoclimatic and biogeographic region of transition between the Sudanese savanna to the south and the Sahara to the north in Africa.

 

AUSTRA HIND 22:

  • The Bilateral military training exercise “AUSTRA HIND 22” between the Indian Army and the Australian Army will commence on 28 November 2022 at the Mahajan Field Firing Ranges (Rajasthan).
  • The exercise will take place from 28 November -11 December 2022. Exercise “AUSTRA HIND” will be a yearly event that will be conducted alternatively in India and Australia.

 

Sports Events:

PT Usha:

  • PT Usha is set to become the first woman President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). She is a multiple Asian Games gold medallist and a fourth-place finisher at the 1984 Olympics 400m hurdles final.
  • She will also become the first Olympian and first international medallist to head the IOA in its 95-year-old history. Ajay Patel will be the Senior Vice – President.
