National Events:

Seed distribution to farmers:

  • Jharkhand government , in collaboration with the tech company SettleMint , has launched seed distribution to farmers based on blockchain technology .
  • With this Jharkhand has become the first state in the country to implement blockchain technology in the agricultural sector .
  • Objective : to enable the distribution of seeds and other schemes in a transparent manner . Jharkhand CM : Hemant Soren.

 

National Skill Development Corporation and Seva Bharti & Yuva Vikas Society:

  • National Skill Development Corporation in partnership with Seva Bharti & Yuva Vikas Society on 20 August 2022 launched the 2nd phase of the ‘ Grameen Udyami Project ‘ in Ranchi , Jharkhand .
  • Aim : To augment skill training in tribal communities for their inclusive and sustainable growth .
  • The project is being implemented in Maharashtra , Rajasthan , Chhattisgarh , Madhya Pradesh , Jharkhand , & Gujarat .

 

Shaheed Bhagat Singh:

  • The Punjab and Haryana governments have agreed to name the Chandigarh International Airport after Shaheed Bhagat Singh .
  • The decision was taken during a meeting between Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann & Haryana deputy CM Dushyant Chautala .
  • The Rs 485 – crore airport project is a joint venture of the Airports Authority of India ( AAI ) , the governments of Punjab and Haryana .

 

Monkeypox:

  • India has launched the first indigenously – developed RT – PCR kit for testing monkeypox disease .
  • It has been developed by Transasia Bio – Medicals & was unveiled by Principal Scientific Adviser to the Central govt , Ajay Kumar Sood .
  • The kit would help in early detection and better management of the monkeypox disease . India so far has reported ten cases of monkeypox .

 

Elementary education for a period of 10 months:

  • Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched the ‘ Vidya Rath -School on Wheels ‘ project . This project aims at providing economically challenged underprivileged children access to elementary education for a period of 10 months .
  • After 10 months they will be integrated into the conventional education system . Students will be provided free mid – day meals , uniforms & textbooks under the project .

 

Seven stolen artefacts:

  • Museums in the Scottish city of Glasgow on 19 August 2022 signed an agreement with the Indian government to repatriate seven stolen artefacts to India .
  • This is Scotland’s ” largest – ever ” repatriation of objects from a single collection .
  • The seven antiquities include a 14th century ceremonial Indo – Persian sword , and an 11th century carved stone door jamb taken from a temple in Kanpur.

 

CPRI:

  • The Central Power Research Institute ( CPRI ) has signed an MoU with the Chhattisgarh govt for setting up a regional testing laboratory in Raipur district .
  • As per the agreement , this lab will have test facilities for transformers , energy meters , transformer oil & other electricity – related equipment .
  • Founded : 1960. CPRI is an autonomous body under the Power Ministry . Headquarters : Bangalore.

 

International Events:

International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism:

  • The International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2017.
  • It designated 21 August as the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism in order to honor the victims and survivors of terrorism.
