National Events:

Positive Indigenisation List:

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the third Positive Indigenisation List of 780 strategically important Line Replacement Units , Sub – systems & Components.
  • It will help to harness the design capabilities of the domestic defence industry & position India as a design leader in these technologies.
  • Besides this list , two other lists were published in December 2021 and March 2022.

 

ICICI Bank & NPCI:

  • ICICI Bank has announced its partnership with National Payments Corporation of India ( NPCI ). It will launch a range of credit cards on RuPay , the indigenous payments network.
  • To begin with , the ICICI Bank RuPay Credit Card is available in the Coral variant of the Bank’s Gemstone series , which will be followed by Rubyx and Sapphiro variants soon.

 

Rajiv Gandhi Rural Olympic Games:

  • In Rajasthan , Rajiv Gandhi Rural Olympic Games started in more than 11,000 panchayats on 29 August 2022. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot inaugurated the games at the state – level function organised in Jodhpur.
  • About 2,25,000 teams are participating in these games .Under the rural olympics , 6 sports – kabaddi , shooting ball , volleyball , hockey , kho – kho and tennis ball cricket will be played.

 

Coastal Clean – Up campaign:

  • Union Minister for Earth Sciences , Dr. Jitendra Singh on 28 August 2022 unveiled a dedicated website ” www.swachhsagar.org ” to give further boost to the ongoing Coastal Clean – Up campaign.
  • The Minister also informed that more than 200 ton of garbage have been removed from the sea coasts during the first 20 days of the ongoing campaign. The campaign was launched on 5th of July , 2022.

 

IRDAI:

  • IRDAI has eased the registration process of new companies by substantially reducing the time taken to process new applications from 6-8 months to 2. The regulator has created a facilitation cell consisting of 2 officers for handholding the new applicants.
  • IRDAI is a statutory body formed under Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority Act , 1999. Chairman : Debasish Panda , HQ : Hyderabad.

 

Twin Towers:

  • Supertech Twin Towers named Apex and Ceyanewere brought down as per the order of the Supreme Court of India.
  • 3700 KG Explosive has been used , in effect , 80,000 Kg debris has been created.EDIFICE and JET , these companies are responsible for the Demolition Process.
  • These towers were declared illegal according to NBR 2006 and 2010 . Investors got their refund with a 12.5 % interest rate.

 

National Sports Day : 29 August:

  • India celebrates National Sports Day on 29th August to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey legend , Major Dhyan Chand.
  • The day was designated as India’s National Sports Day in 2012. The President of India gives away sports – related awards such as Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award & Dronacharya Award on this day.

 

AIM & NITI Aayog:

  • Atal Innovation Mission ( AIM ) & NITI Aayog will establish more than 500 Atal Tinkering Labs ( ATLs ) in Jammu and Kashmir to nurture an innovative mindset among high school students.
  • The objectives of the AIM are to create & promote an ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship across the country. The programmes of AIM cover 34 states & Union Territories.

 

PNB Bank:

  • Punjab National Bank has put up for sale its NPA account Apollo Distilleries & Breweries with loan outstanding of Rs 44 crore due against the company.
  • The bank invited asset reconstruction companies ( ARCs ) to put their bids for transferring the loan account of Apollo Distilleries & Breweries.
  • Apollo Distilleries and Breweries is a subsidiary of Empee Distilleries Ltd ( EDL ) in Tamil Nadu.

 

International Events:

Hydrogen powered train:

  • Germany inaugurated the world’s first hydrogen – powered train , Coradia iLint , on 24 August 2022. A total of 14 hydrogen power trains will operate on a regional route in Germany.
  • Manufactured by Alstom , these trains will only emit steam and condensed water while operating with a low level of noise. These trains can travel at a maximum speed of 140 kmph.

 

Exercise Vajra Prahar:

  • The 13th edition of the 21 – day India- USA Joint Exercise Vajra Prahar culminated at Bakloh in Himachal Pradesh on 28 August 2022.The exercise was conducted in two phases , combat conditioning & validation of training.
  • This annual exercise is hosted alternatively between India and the United States. The 12th edition was conducted at Joint Base Lewis Mc Chord , Washington ( US ) in October 2021.

 

Sports Events:

FIFA:

  • FIFA has lifted the ban imposed on the All India Football Federation ( AIFF ) after the Supreme Court terminated the mandate of the Committee of Administrators.
  • This decision has cleared the decks for India to host the Women’s U – 17 World Cup scheduled to take place on 11-30 October 2022.
  • FIFA had suspended the All India Football Federation on August 15 due to third – party interference.
