National Events:

ASEAN-India:

  • External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is on a visit to Cambodia from August 3-4 , 2022 . He will attend the ASEAN – India ministerial meeting in Phnom Penh during which he will take stock of the ASEAN – India partnership .
  • The year 2022 is being celebrated as the ASEAN – India Friendship Year as announced by ASEAN and Indian leaders at the 18th ASEAN – India Summit in October 2021.

 

UNFCCC:

  • The Union Cabinet has approved India’s updated Nationally Determined Contribution ( NDC ) to be communicated to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change ( UNFCCC ) .
  • India now stands committed to reduce Emissions Intensity of its GDP by 45 % by 2030 , from 2005 level and achieve about 50 % cumulative electric power installed capacity from non – fossil fuel – based energy resources by 2030 .

 

Indian Oil & NTCA:

  • Indian Oil has signed an MoU with National Tiger Conservation Authority ( NTCA ) for transcontinental relocation of ‘ Cheetah ‘ in its historical range in India .
  • Under this project , a source population of 8-10 Cheetahs will be flown in from Namibia and South Africa and will be introduced at Kuno National Park , Madhya Pradesh . It is a national project involving NTCA and the govt of MP .

 

SVC Bank & SIDBI:

  • SVC Co – operative Bank ( SVC Bank ) and Small Industries Development Bank in India ( SIDBI ) have announced a partnership through an agreement .As per the agreement , SIDBI will extend Refinance facility to SVC Bank to facilitate an improved flow of credit to MSMEs .
  • SIDBI is the Principal Financial Institution for Promotion , Financing and Development of the MSME sector .

 

DPIIT:

  • Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade ( DPIIT ) has recognized more than 75,000 startups which is a milestone coinciding with 75th year of independence .
  • Out of the total recognized startups , around 12 % cater to IT services , 9 % to Healthcare and Life Sciences , 7 % to education , 5 % to professional and commercial services and 5 % to agriculture .

 

MPC:

  • The three – day Monetary Policy Committee Meeting began on 3 August 2022 in Mumbai in the presence of RBI Governor Shaktikant Das and other MPC members .The MPC will announce its bi – monthly monetary policy on 5 Aug.
  • The MPC will discuss the policy for financial year 2022-23 . After keeping the policy rates unchanged for almost 2 years the apex bank has continued the rate hike cycle for 2022 .

 

ONGC Para Games:

  • Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on 2 August 2022 inaugurated the 4th ONGC Para Games in New Delhi . Nearly 275 Persons with Disabilities ( PWD ) from across the country are participating in these Games .
  • These all are employees of 8 central oil & gas public enterprises .The first edition of the ONGC Para Games was held in 2017 . Oil and Natural Gas Corporation ( ONGC ) Chairman : Alka Mittal.

 

RBI:

  • Banks have written off loans worth about 10 lakh crore in the last five financial years.During 2021-22 , the write – off amount came down to 1,57,096 crore compared to ₹ 2,02,781 crore in the previous year .
  • The highest write off in five years was recorded in 2018-19 at 2,36,265 crore . As per the RBI’s CRILC data , total number of willful defaulters in the last four years stood at 10,306 .

 

Goa Police:

  • Goa Police on 2 August 2022 signed an MoU with blockchain . network , 5ire , to take its processes digital . With this MoU , Goa will become the first police state in India to go completely paperless .
  • This agreement with 5ire will help Goa Police to implement a smart policing solution to improve transparency and efficiency in policing . 5ire Founded : 2021. Founder : Pratik Gauri.

 

IISc & Indian Navy:

  • Bengaluru – based Indian Institute of Science ( IISc ) and the Indian Navy have signed an MoU to collaborate on aviation research and development .
  • The areas of collaboration under the MoU will fall under the domain of aerospace / aeronautical engineering , including design and education technology . This agreement will also promote joint research programmes in areas of mutual interest .

 

146th birth anniversary of Pingali Venkayya : 2 August 2022:

  • On 2 August 2022 , the 146th birth anniversary of freedom fighter Pingali Venkayya was celebrated across the country .
  • Venkayya , a freedom fighter and staunch Gandhian , was the first to draw up a rudimentary design of the national flag in 1921 .His design for the National Flag was finally approved by Mahatama Gandhi in Vijayawada in 1921.

 

PMO’s Director:

  • Indian Foreign Service ( IFS ) officer Shweta Singh was on 2 August 2022 appointed as a director in the Prime Minister’s Office ( PMO ) .Singh is a 2008 – batch IFS officer .
  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet ( ACC ) approved Singh’s appointment for a period of three years from the date of her joining .

 

Wildlife Conservation Amendment Bill-2021:

  • The Wildlife Conservation Amendment Bill-2021 was passed in the Lok Sabha. The Wildlife Conservation Amendment Bill includes provisions for better management of protected forest areas and clarification of certain permitted activities such as cattle grazing.

 

International Events:

”Pitch Black”:

  • India’s participation in the exercise , ” Pitch Black ” , has been confirmed by the Australian government . The exercise is scheduled to take place from August 19 to September 6 , 2022 .
  • India will be part of a mega air combat exercise in Australia that is set to witness the participation of around 100 aircraft and 2,500 military personnel from 17 countries .

 

Auguste Tano Kouamé:

  • The World Bank has appointed Auguste Tano Kouamé as the Country Director for India . He replaces Junaid Kamal Ahmad who recently completed a five – year term .
  • Auguste , a national of Côte d’Ivoire , most recently served as the World Bank’s Country Director for the Republic of Türkiye . World Bank Founded : December 1945 . Headquarters : Washington , D.C. , U.S . President : David Malpass.

 

Airbus & GMR:

  • European aerospace company Airbus on 2 August 2022 signed a contract with GMR Group to provide aircraft maintenance training to young aviation engineers in India
  • .As per the agreement , Airbus will provide all the necessary software and courseware to train the engineers at the GMR School of Aviation in Hyderabad .
  • In addition , Airbus will also provide training to GMR instructors .

 

Sports Events:

2022 CWG:

  • The Indian men’s table tennis team won the gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on 2 August 2022 .
  • This is India’s third gold medal at the CWG in the men’s team event having earlier won in 2010 and 2018 .
