National Events:

MoDoNER & ISRO:

  • The Ministry of Development of North-Eastern Region (MoDoNER) has in collaboration with the department of space (ISRO) has developed a project-monitoring mobile application.
  • The project can be monitored in three modes viz mobile apps, satellite images and drone images.
  • Till November 2022, 562 projects across North-Eastern Region (NER) have been geo – tagged through satellite images and mobile app.

 

Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2022:

  • Parliament passed the Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2022 on 12 December 2022. The Bill seeks to amend the Energy Conservation Act, 2001. It promotes energy efficiency and conservation.
  • The Bill empowers the Center to specify a carbon credit trading scheme. The Energy Conservation Code for Buildings will be applicable to residential buildings with a connected load of 100 KW or more.

 

Aam Aadmi Party:

  • Aam Aadmi Party has become the 9th ‘National party’ of India Within a decade of its formation in December 2022. AAP has become India’s 9th national party with its performance in the Gujarat elections.
  • The Election Commission of India gives national and state tags to parties, which allows them to use their symbol across India or in a respective state. ECI Formed: 25 January 1950. Chairman: Rajiv Kumar.

 

Namma Clinics:

  • Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will inaugurate 438 Namma Clinics at Bhairidevarakoppa in the city on December 14, 2022.
  • The state government will start the Namma Clinics in urban areas in the state to give primary health services to the urban poor. If a patient requires higher treatment, the clinic’s doctors will refer them to advanced hospitals.

 

IUCN:

  • Three Himalayan medicinal plants enter IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Red list. These are Meizotropis pellita (critically endangered), Fritilloria cirrhosa (vulnerable) and Dactylorhiza hatagirea (endangered).
  • Meizotropis pellita commonly known as Patwa, is a perennial shrub that is found only in Uttarakhand. Fritillaria cirrhosa, commonly known as Himalayan fritillary, is a perennial bulbous herb. Dactylorhiza hatagirea is a perennial tuberous species.

 

ACSM:

  • Meghalaya government has been awarded for its initiative ‘jan andolan’ against Tuberculosis at a national workshop on ACSM (Advocacy, communication and social mobilization) to end TB in India.
  • The award was presented in the category of Best Practice in Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilisation in Tuberculosis control to representatives of state’s health department. PM Modi had put a national target to eliminate the disease by 2025.

 

‘Vanikaran’:

  • Kerala forest department has launched ‘Vanikaran’ project to restore natural vegetation. It is an afforestation project to root out invasive plants, especially Senna spectabilis.
  • It is being executed in Sulthan Bathery forest range of Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary (WWS). Its pillars include planting saplings of Bamboo, fruit plants etc and rainwater harvesting.

 

National Judicial Commission Bill:

  • National Judicial Commission Bill introduced in Rajya Sabha. The bill aims to regulate the procedure followed by the National Judicial Commission for recommending the appointment of all judges in India.
  • It also aims to regulate their transfers, lay down judicial standards, and provide for accountability of judges. It also proposes the presentation of an address by parliament to the president in relation to the proceeding for the removal of a judge.

 

Tamil Nadu Events:

Statue of Mahakavi Subramanian Bharathiyar:

  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin inaugurated the statue of Mahakavi Subramanian Bharathiyar at the renovated house of Bharathiyar at Varanasi on 11 December 2022. Mr.Stalin also released a souvenir on his centenary.
  • Bharathiyar was a Tamil writer, poet, journalist, Indian independence activist, social reformer and polyglot.

 

International Events:

“Standing with the Ukrainian People”:

  • France will host an International conference “Standing with the Ukrainian People” in Paris. It will be held with the aim to coordinate international support for civilian resilience in Ukraine and address the people’s urgent humanitarian needs.
  • Russian forces attacked Ukraine on 24 February 2022. This event will gather representatives from 47 countries as well as 22 international organizations.

 

“Enabling gender-responsive urban mobility and public spaces”:

  • World Bank launched a Gender Toolkit based on “Enabling gender-responsive urban mobility and public spaces” in December 2022. It aims at bringing under spotlight the gender issues surrounding mobility and city design.
  • It offers resources to help and address gender-disaggregated mobility patterns, reinforce policies, and create an infrastructure that will suit their requirements.

 

United States of America’s Finance Ministry):

  • The Treasury (United States of America’s Finance Ministry) printed the first US banknotes (currency notes) with two women’s signatures in December 2022.
  • The new currency notes of $ 1 and $ 5 value carry the signature of the Secretary of Treasury (American Finance Minister) Janet Yellen and Lynn Malerba. The United States currency notes are popularly called Greenback.

 

Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival:

  • The 20th edition of Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival was organised in Kathmandu from 8-12 December 2022. The key focus of the film fest is on the mountain communities and cultures to Nepali audiences.
  • For the year 2022, the theme of the film fest is ‘Sustainable Summits’. Hindi film Ayena, directed and produced by Siddhant Sirin, was also showcased during the event.

 

HAKUTO-R:

  • Japanese space startup ispace Inc has launched its own private lander M1 to the Moon under its HAKUTO-R mission, from the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. HAKUTO-R refers to the white rabbit.
  • Its lunar lander contains two rovers who were expected to touch down on the visible side of the moon in April 2023. If the rover Rashid lands successfully, it will be the Arab world’s first Moon mission.

 

WHO:

  • The 2022 report is based on information received from 84 malaria-endemic countries in all WHO regions. It provides a comprehensive and up-to-date assessment of trends in malaria control and elimination across the globe.
  • As for Malaria cases, the upward trend continued but at a slower rate, with 247 million cases in 2021, compared to 245 million cases in 2020 and 232 million in 2019.

 

IND-INDO CORPAT:

  • The 39th edition of India-Indonesia Coordinated Patrol (IND-INDO CORPAT) between the Indian Navy and the Indonesian Navy is being conducted from 8-19 December 2022.India and Indonesia have been carrying out CORPATS twice a year since 2002.

 

Sports Events:

U18 Asia Rugby Sevens:

  • The Under-18 girls team won the silver medal at the U18 Asia Rugby Sevens held at Kathmandu, Nepal on 11 December 2022.
  • The tournament was held on the 10th and the 11th of December with five countries participating in the girls ‘pool and eight countries participating in the boys’ pool.

 

Tennis Premier League 2022:

  • Hyderabad Strikers crowned as champions of Tennis Premier League 2022 on 12 December 2022. The final of the 4th TPL was held in Pune, Maharashtra.
  • Hyderabad’s pair S. Balaji and Nikki Poonacha defeated Mumbai’s R. Ramanathan and J. Nedunnchezhiyan 14-6 to win the title.
