National Events:

1)ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund:

  • ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund has launched a new feature called ICICI Prudential Booster Systematic Investment Plan ( Booster SIP ) .
  • In this , a fixed amount is invested at predefined intervals in the source scheme and a variable amount is transferred to the target scheme at pre defined intervals depending on equity valuation index ( EVI ) .

 

2)Defence Investiture Ceremony ( Phase – 2 ):

  • President Ram Nath Kovind , on 31 May 2022 , conferred one Kirti Chakra and 14 Shaurya Chakras during Defence Investiture Ceremony ( Phase – 2 ) at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi .
  • Kirti Chakra was awarded to the constable of Jammu and Kashmir Police Altaf Hussain Bhat posthumously . He also conferred 13 Param Vishisht Seva Medals and 29 Ati Vishisht Seva Medals for distinguished service .

 

3)National Education Ministers Conference:

  • The two – day National Education Ministers Conference is being held in Gujarat from 1 June 2022 .
  • Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan along with other union Ministers and Education Ministers of States and Union Territories will be participating in the conference .It will focus on the implementation of National Education Policy 2020 .

 

4)NTPC Ltd:

  • NTPC Ltd , India’s largest integrated energy producer has issued renewed Biodiversity Policy 2022 to establish a comprehensive vision and guiding principle for conservation , restoration and enhancement of biodiversity .
  • This Biodiversity Policy is an integral part of NTPC’s Environmental Policy .NTPC was the first PSU to issue Biodiversity Policy in 2018 .It was founded on 7 November 1975 .

 

5)Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India ( PMBI):

  • The Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India ( PMBI ) has locked its highest monthly sales turnover of Rs 100 crores in May 2022 .
  • PMBI is the implementing agency of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana ( PMBJP ) .The government has also set a target to increase the number of Jan Aushadhi Kendras to 10,000 by March 2024 .

6)AAYU App:

  • Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on 29 May 2022 launched a new health and wellness app AAYU to address and help heal chronic diseases and lifestyle disorders through yoga and meditation .
  • The app has been developed by Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana ( S – VYASA ) in partnership with RESET TECH .AAYU addresses the root cause of the diseases going beyond temporary care .

 

7)National Assets Reconstruction Company Ltd ( NARCL ):

  • National Assets Reconstruction Company Ltd ( NARCL ) has informed that Natarajan Sundar has assumed the charge of MD and CEO of the Rs 6,000 – crore bad bank .
  • Prior to this , Sundar was Deputy Managing Director and Chief Credit Officer of SBI . He retired on April 30 , 2022 . NARCL has also appointed Karnam Sekar as the independent director and non – executive chairman of the board.

 

8)Astra MK-1 missiles:

  • The Ministry of Defense has entered into an agreement with Bharat Dynamics to purchase Astra MK-1 missiles worth Rs 2,971 crore to promote domestic production of military equipment.
  • The Astra MK-1 missile is capable of striking and destroying targets from the sky in the Indian Navy and Air Force. 248 Astra missiles will be procured from Bharat Dynamics, of which 200 will be used by the Indian Air Force and 48 by the Navy.
  • The Astra missile, designed by DRDO, was first tested in May 2003 and has since been repeatedly tested and added to the Sukhoi fighter jet. The missiles will be added to the Tejas Mark-1A fighter jet and upgraded MiG-29 fighter jet in the coming years.

 

9)Two insurance schemes implemented by the Central Government:

  • The premium amount has been increased for two insurance schemes implemented by the Central Government. The central government is implementing the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, which provide life insurance for Rs 2 lakh.
  • People between the ages of 18 and 50 who have a bank or post office savings account can join the Jeevan Jyoti insurance scheme. People between the ages of 18 and 70 can join the Suraksha scheme.
  • The premium for the Jeevan Jyoti scheme has been increased from Rs.330 per annum to Rs.436 (32 per cent). Similarly, the annual premium for a Suraksha insurance scheme has been increased from Rs 12 to Rs 20 (67 per cent).
  • The premium amount has been increased as companies have reported that the amount paid to the insurers is higher than the income earned through the premium. The new rules will take effect on June 1.
  • As on March 31, 6.4 crore people have joined the Jeevan Jyoti scheme and 22 crore under the Suraksha scheme. Under both the schemes the sum insured is credited directly to the bank account.

 

Tamil Nadu Events:

1)Government of Tamil Nadu & Post Office:

  • The Government of Tamil Nadu has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Post Office to visit the premises of pensioners and obtain as well submit a life certificate.
  • The agreement was exchanged at a function held at the General Secretariat in the presence of Finance Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan.

 

World Events:

1)India and Pakistan:

  • India and Pakistan on 30 May 2022 began another round of the Permanent Indus Commission meeting .This meeting is held annually under the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT)1960 .
  • The last meeting was held on March 23-24 , 2021 in New Delhi .The Indus Water Treaty ( IWT ) is a water – distribution treaty between India and Pakistan , to use the water available in the Indus River and its tributaries .

 

2)World Milk Day : 1 June:

  • The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations adopted June 1 as World Milk Day in 2001 .The day is marked to recognise milk as global food and to celebrate the dairy industry .
  • In the last few years , India has also become one of the largest producers of milk in the world with over 150 million tones of production and per capita availability of over 300 grams per day .

 

3)Israel & UAE:

  • Israel signed a free trade deal with the United Arab Emirates on 31 May 2022 , its first with an Arab country .T
  • he trade agreement defines tax rates , imports and intellectual property , which would encourage more Israeli companies to set up offices in the UAE , particularly in Dubai .
  • The accord would remove tariffs on 96 % of goods , including food , agriculture , cosmetics , medical equipment , etc.

 

 

4)Frontier:

  • Frontier , a supercomputer built by the USA , outperformed Japan’s Fugaku to become the world’s fastest supercomputer .
  • Frontier is built for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory and it has reached Linmark benchmark score of 1.1 exaflops . It has also become the world’s first supercomputer to break the exascale speed barrier .

 

Sports:

1)ISSF World Cup 2022:

  • Indian women’s shooting team bagged a gold medal for India in the 10m air rifle women’s team event at the ISSF World Cup 2022 in Baku on 31 May 2022 .
  • The Indian team comprises Elavenil Valarivan , Shreya Agarwal and Ramita .This was India’s first medal at the ongoing ISSF World Cup in Baku . The trio from India defeated Denmark 17-5 in the gold medal match .

 

2)12th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship:

  • Uttar Pradesh Hockey , on 29 May 2022 , won the 12th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship by defeating Hockey Chandigarh ( 2-0 ) in the final .
  • The final match was held in Kovilpatti , Tamil Nadu .Hockey Haryana claimed third place in the competition with a 3-0 win against Hockey Odisha .Uttar Pradesh Hockey had also won the 11th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship in 2021 .
