National Events:

TCS & Aadhar Housing Finance:

  • TCS has bagged a deal to drive business process transformation at Aadhar Housing Finance . Aadhar Housing will be deploying the Tata group company’s lending and securitization platform for market expansion .
  • The partnership with TCS is for an end – to – end business process transformation using the integrated and collaborative blockchain – based cloud platform .

 

Delhi Environment Department:

  • The Delhi Environment Department will ban 19 identified single – use plastic ( SUP ) items from July 1 , 2022 .These 19 identified invitation cards , cigarette packets , plastic or PVC banners less than 100 microns , stirrers , etc.
  • The Delhi Pollution Control Committee ( DPCC ) has also asked the Sriram Institute of Industrial Research to conduct a survey to quantify plastic waste generation in Delhi .

 

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar:

  • External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar is on a four – day visit to Kigali in Rwanda from 22 June 2022 to attend the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting .
  • The theme of the summit is – Delivering a Common Future : Connecting , Innovating , Transforming . India is also one of the largest contributors to the Commonwealth and has assisted the organization with technical assistance .

 

Ruchira Kamboj:

  • Senior Diplomat Ruchira Kamboj has been appointed as the next Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations . A 1987 batch Indian Foreign Service officer , Ruchira Kamboj is presently serving as Ambassador of India to Bhutan .
  • She will succeed TS Tirumurti as the Indian ambassador to the United Nations . United Nations Headquarters – New York , United States.

 

‘ One Nation One Ration Card ‘:

  • Assam has become the 36th State to implement the ‘ One Nation One Ration Card ‘ ( ONORC ) scheme .With this , the ONORC plan is successfully implemented in all 36 states / UTs , making food security portable throughout the country .
  • ONORC is aimed at enabling migrant workers to seamlessly lift their entitled subsidized foodgrains from any Fair Price Shop of their choice anywhere in the country .

 

Seismology Observatory in the Udhampur:

  • Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh on 21 June 2022 inaugurated the Seismology Observatory in the Udhampur of Jammu and Kashmir . This is the third such centre that has been set up in J & K by the Ministry of Earth Sciences .
  • A complete seismic record of Udhampur , Doda , Kishtwar , Ramban and many other districts will be prepared at the observatory .

 

New Development Bank:

  • New Development Bank ( NDB ) of the BRICS countries has appointed Dr D.J. Pandian as the Director – General of its India Regional Office in Gujarat International Finance Tec – City ( GIFT City ) .
  • Pandian earlier served as the Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of the Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank ( AIIB ) . NDB Headquarters – Shanghai , China . NDB founded – 15 July 2014.

 

Tourist train to cross the India – Nepal international border:

  • The first ‘ Bharat Gaurav ‘ tourist train connecting places associated with the Ramayana Circuit in India and Nepal was flagged off from the Safdarjung railway station in New Delhi on 21 June 2022 .
  • Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of Tourism and Culture G. Kishan Reddy flagged off the train . This is the first tourist train to cross the India – Nepal international border .

 

Open Network for Digital Commerce:

  • Open Network for Digital Commerce ( ONDC ) has partnered with National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development ( NABARD ) to bring e – commerce in the agricultural domain .
  • Under the partnership , ONDC and NABARD will organise the NABARD – ONDC Grand Hackathon on 1st – 3rd July 2022 . The event aims to connect agritech players with market – ready Farmers Producers Organisations ( FPOS ) .

 

Directorate General of Shipping and the Indian Navy:

  • An MoU has been signed between the Directorate General of Shipping and the Indian Navy . It has been signed for transition of retired Indian Navy Personnel to Merchant Navy .
  • It will benefit personnel retiring Indian Navy and provide them with an opportunity to work on Merchant Ships .

 

United Arab Emirates and Australia on free trade:

  • India has signed an agreement with the United Arab Emirates and Australia on free trade. With this, the export market for the readymade garments sector has expanded. Through this, exports are encouraged and the way is born to earn substantial foreign exchange.
  • In 2013, the global value of readymade garments was only $ 1.5 trillion. The sector is expected to generate $ 1.8 trillion in revenue by 2022 and $ 1.9 trillion by 2025.

 

International Events:

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI):

  • US – based Oracle’s cloud services platform , Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) has launched ‘ OCI dedicated region ‘ for the India market .It will offer public cloud services to customers on their premises .
  • The new OCI Dedicated Region requires 60 % -75 % less data centre space and power on average ,with a significantly lower entry price of around $ 1 million a year for a typical customers .

 

Khuvsgul Lake National Park:

  • Mongolia’s Khuvsgul Lake National Park has been added to the World Network of Biosphere Reserves of UNESCO .
  • Khuvsgul Lake is located in the northern Mongolian province of Khuvsgul near the Russian border , holding nearly 70 percent of Mongolia’s fresh water , or 0.4 percent of the world’s total . A total of nine sites from Mongolia have so far been registered in the network .

 

World Hydrography Day : 21 June:

  • Every year on June 21 , World Hydrography Day is celebrated .It was adopted by the International Hydrographic Organization as an annual celebration to publicise the work of hydrographers and the importance of hydrography .
  • The theme for 2022 is : ” Hydrography – contributing to the United Nations Ocean Decade ” .The day was first observed in 2005 .

 

” The Book of Form and Emptiness “:

  • Canadian – American author Ruth Ozeki has won the 2022 ‘ Women’s Prize for Fiction “. She has won the award for her novel ” The Book of Form and Emptiness “.
  • The ‘ Women’s Prize for Fiction ‘ is given annually to a female English language writer from anywhere in the world whose voice rings true .

 

 

Sports Events:

Indian women’s wrestling team:

  • Indian women’s wrestling team has won five medals to claim the Under – 17 Asian . Championship title with a total of eight gold at Bishkek , Kyrgyzstan . Ritika won gold in 43 kg , while Ahilaya Shinde got gold in 49 kg .
  • India lifted the title with a total of 235 points from eight golds , one silver and one bronze . Japan was the runner – up with 143 points and Mongolia finished third with 138 points .

 

Lisa Sthalekar:

  • Legendary Australian cricketer Lisa Sthalekar has become the first woman president of the Federation of International Cricketers ‘ Association ( FICA ) . She was confirmed in the role at the FICA Executive Committee meeting held in Nyon , Switzerland in June 2022 .
  • Sthalekar played 8 Tests , 125 ODIs and 54 T20ls for Australia between 2001 and 2013 , finishing her career with a World Cup win .
