National Events:

Agni-4:

  • India on 6 June 2022 successfully tested its nuclear – capable intermediate – range ballistic missile Agni – 4 with a range of 4000 km . A successful training launch of Agni – 4 , was carried out from APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha .
  • Agni – IV is the fourth in the Agni series of missiles earlier known as Agni Il prime – developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation ( DRDO ) .

 

SBI:

  • The centre has approved the appointment of Alok Kumar Choudhary , Deputy Managing Director of SBI as the Managing Director for a period of 2 years .
  • Choudhary , who was currently in charge of the finance portfolio , will now be in charge of corporate banking and information technology in his new role at SBI . He replaces former MD Ashwani Bhatia who took charge as the whole time member of SEBI .

 

First – ever National Air Sports Policy – 2022:

  • Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has announced first – ever National Air Sports Policy – 2022 in New Delhi .The objective of this policy is to include India among the top air sporting nations by 2030 .
  • It is also aimed at providing a safe , affordable and sustainable air sports ecosystem in the country .Eleven air sports will be promoted through this policy .

 

Visitor’s Conference 2022:

  • President Ram Nath Kovind hosted the Visitor’s Conference 2022 at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on 7 June 2022 .He also presented the Visitor’s Awards 2020 in the categories of Research and Technological Development .
  • Subsequent to the conferment of awards , the Conference witnessed the presentation on ‘ Role and responsibilities of Higher Education Institutions in ‘ Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’.

 

Defence Acquisition Council ( DAC ):

  • The defence ministry on 6 June 2022 approved the procurement of military equipment and platforms worth ₹ 76,390 crore from domestic industries .
  • The procurement proposals were approved by the Defence Acquisition Council ( DAC ) headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh .The DAC is the apex decision making body of the Ministry of Defence.

 

Jan Samarth Portal:

  • Prime Minister Modi on June 6 , 2022 , launched Jan Samarth Portal for credit – linked government schemes . It is a one – stop digital portal linking government credit schemes .
  • PM also inaugurated the Iconic Week Celebrations of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs on 6 June 2022 . The Iconic week ( June 6-11,2022 ) is being celebrated as part of the ‘ Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav ‘.

 

Tone Tag:

  • Tone Tag , a brand of Naffa Innovations Pvt Ltd , has been declared the winner in two categories in the RBI’s first global hackathon Harbinger 2021 . In all , there were four categories .
  • napID Cybersec Pvt Ltd and TrustCheckr were the winners of the other two categories .The RBI had launched its first global hackathon – ” Harbinger 2021 – Innovation for Transformation ” in November 2021 .

 

Punjab & Sind Bank:

  • The government has appointed Swarup Kumar Saha as MD and CEO of Punjab & Sind Bank . Saha has been appointed for a period of 3 years .

 

DBS Bank India:

  • DBS Bank India has announced the launch of its first – ever credit card in India in partnership with Bajaj Finance Limited . The Bajaj Finserv DBS Bank SuperCard , powered by Visa , eliminates the need to have multiple credit cards .
  • DBS Bank Limited is a Singaporean multinational banking and financial services corporation headquartered in the Marina Bay district of Singapore .

 

Indira Gandhi International Airport:

  • Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport has decided to replace all vehicles with electric vehicles ( EVS ) on the airside operations to cut greenhouse gas emissions .
  • These Evs will be introduced in a phased manner under Green Transportation Programme . As part of the programme , the Delhi airport will induct 62 EVs within 3-4 months .

 

India’s First Bullet train:

  • Railway Minister Aswini Vaishnav has expressed confidence that India’s first bullet train between Surat and Pilimora in Gujarat will be operational by 2026.The bullet train project, which was scheduled to start between Ahmedabad and Mumbai in 2022, has been delayed due to land acquisition issue.
  • In this context, Minister Aswini Vaishnav on Monday inspected the ongoing projects in Surat.

Information about the bullet train:

  • The bullet train will run at a speed of 320 kmph and will cover 508 kmph between Gujarat and Mumbai. Helps to cover distance in 2 hours 50 minutes. It takes about 6 hours to cover this distance with the existing train facility.
  • Project value Rs. 1.1 lakh crore.
  • The Government of Japan’s International Coordinating Agency is lending Rs 88,000 crore for this project. The foundation stone for the project was laid in 2017 in the presence of then-President Shinzo Abe of Japan.
  • In total of 12 railway stations , Eight stations will be set up in Gujarat. Four will be set up Maharashtra. The Bullet Train Control Center will be located at Sabarmati in Ahmedabad. It has two workshops at Surat and Sabarmati and one at Thane, Maharashtra.

 

Tamil Nadu Events:

Museum for the Handicapped:

  • Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated the ‘Everything is Possible’ museum at the Alternative Skills Welfare Commission.
  • For the first time in South India, a Museum for the Handicapped has been set up at the Alternative Skills Welfare Commission, Kamaraj Road, Chennai under the title ‘Everything is Possible’.

 

International Events:

” Ex Khaan Quest 2022 “:

  • A Multinational Peacekeeping exercise ” Ex Khaan Quest 2022 ” featuring participation from military contingents from 16 countries including India commenced in Mongolia on 6 June 2022 . Indian Army is represented by a contingent from the LADAKH SCOUTS .
  • Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh , the President of Mongolia inaugurated the Exercise .The 14 – day exercise is aimed at developing peace support operations .

 

EPI:

  • India scored the lowest among 180 countries in the 2022 Environment Performance Index ( EPI ) . EPI is an analysis by researchers of Yale and Columbia University which provides a data – driven summary of the state of sustainability around the world .
  • India ranked at the bottom with a total score of 18.9 , while Denmark was the top scorer as the world’s most sustainable country .

 

 

World Food Safety Day : 7 June:

  • World Food Safety Day is observed annually on June 7 .The day is marked to raise awareness of the health hazards associated with unsafe food , and to highlight the significance of hygiene .
  • The theme for 2022 is ‘ Safer food , better health ‘. The day was marked by the UN General Assembly in 2018 . The WHO and Food and Agriculture Organisation ( FAO ) jointly facilitate the observance of the day .

 

‘ Rim of the Pacific’:

  • India has decided to participate in the world’s biggest maritime exercise ‘ Rim of the Pacific ‘ or RIMPAC , hosted by the US .
  • As many as 26 countries will showcase their naval might from 29 June to 4 August 2022 in Honolulu and San Diego in the 28th edition of the naval wargames .
  • India first participated in RIMPAC in 2014 . The RIMPAC started in 1971 and from 1974 it became a biennial event .

 

Sports Events:

Indian men’s team wins the Hockey Fives Championship:

  • The Indian men’s team wins the Hockey Fives Championship for the first time at the International Hockey Federation. India beat Poland in the final in Lausanne, Switzerland.
