National Events:

RBI:

  • RBI has imposed heavy penalties on several financial entities for violation of various norms.
  • The penalties went as high as Rs 1.76 crores for Vakrangee Ltd , which was fined for non – compliance with some provisions related to White Label ATM ( WLA ) directions. It has imposed a Rs 30 lakh penalty on The Jammu and Kashmir State Co – operative Bank Ltd.

 

PM Modi:

  • PM Modi dedicated and laid the foundation stone of projects worth around 860 cr rupees at Jambughoda , Panchmahal district of Gujarat on 1 November 2022.
  • He inaugurated the new green administrative block of the Shri Gobind Guru University ( GGU ) built at the cost of Rs 52.61 cr in Jambughoda.
  • He also inaugurated memorials of tribal freedom fighters , Raja Roop Singh Nayak and Saint Joria Parameshwar.

 

Project of digital Rupee:

  • The Reserve Bank of India launched the pilot project of Digital Rupee in the wholesale segment on 1 November 2022. Digital Rupee will be used for settlement of secondary market transactions in government securities.
  • SBI , Bank of Baroda , Union Bank of India , HDFC Bank , ICICI Bank , Kotak Mahindra Bank , Yes Bank , IDFC First Bank and HSBC have been identified for participation in the pilot.

 

India Water Week:

  • In an effort to raise awareness , conserve and use water resources in an integrated manner , Union Ministry of Water Resources will organize the 7th edition of India Water Week from 1st to 5th Nov 2022.
  • The theme of 7th edition is ” Water Security for Sustainable Development and Equity “. The event will be inaugurated by the President of India Droupadi Murmu on 1st Nov 2022 in Greater Noida , UP.

 

HDFC ERGO:

  • HDFC ERGO on 31st Oct 2022 announced the launch of a technology – backed policy for farmers. This is a first – of – its – kind insurance solution , where a satellite – based index will be used to provide localized farm – level coverage farm yield insurance.
  • It will provide comprehensive cover across the crop life cycle from sowing to harvesting, basis satellite – based data. HDFC ERGO MD : Ritesh Kumar.

 

HARIT Aaykar:

  • The Income Tax Department launched the HARIT Aaykar initiative on the occasion of National Unity Day ( 31st Oct ) to increase greenery and create micro forests. HARIT is the abbreviation of Hariyali Achievement Resolution by Income Tax.
  • Under this initiative , the Dept resolves to increase the green cover by planting trees & creating micro – forests in and around Income Tax Dept’s buildings.

 

PLI:

  • Union Government on 31st Oct 2022 granted approval to 42 companies including Nokia & Samsung , under the production linked incentive ( PLI ) scheme for telecom and networking products.
  • Union Budget 2022-23 had announced a design – led PLI scheme for telecom and networking products. Telecom equipment makers who use 50 % of Made in India components in their products will be eligible for the incentive.

 

Yotta D1:

  • Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath on 31st Oct 2022 inaugurated North India’s first hyper – scale data centre ‘ Yotta D1 ‘ in Greater Noida.
  • It has been built by Hiranandani Group at the cost of Rs 5,000 crore and is spread over an area of 3,00,000 square feet at the upcoming Data Centre Park in Greater Noida. This data centre park will have a total of 06 data centres.

 

WhatsApp and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd:

  • WhatsApp and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd ( BMRCL ) on 31st Oct 2022 announced a partnership to launch Namma Metro’s WhatsApp chatbot – based QR ticketing service.
  • The chatbot will allow ‘ Namma Metro ‘ commuters to purchase tickets and recharge their travel pass right within WhatsApp.
  • It is the first transit service globally to enable end – to – end QR ticketing on WhatsApp.

 

Karnataka Rajyotsava Day : 1st November:

  • Karnataka Formation Day is celebrated as ‘ Rajyotsava ‘ day on 1 November every year. This celebration marks the birth of Karnataka state , on 1st Nov 1956 by way of merger of Kannada speaking regions of South India.
  • In 1956 , boundaries of Mysuru state were redefined to include Kannada speaking regions of other adjacent states. The name was changed from ‘ Mysuru ‘ to ‘ Karnataka ‘ on 1st November 1973.

 

Ladakh’s Foundation Day:

  • Ladakh’s Foundation Day was observed on 31 October 2022 both at the district headquarters in Leh and Kargil of UT Ladakh.
  • Ladakh was established as a union territory of India on 31 October 2019 , following the passage of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act.
  • Prior to that , it was part of the Jammu and Kashmir state. It is the largest and the 2nd least populous union territory of India.

 

Keral Pirayi day:

  • Kerala celebrated its 66th formation day on 1 Nov 22 , which is also known as ‘ Kerala Pirayi day ‘. It was formed on 1st November 1956 , amalgamating Malabar , Cochin and Thiruvithancoor.
  • The President’s Trophy Boat Race is part of the day’s celebrations. For 2022 , a human chain was formed in Thiruvananthapuram to mark the end of the first phase of the State government’s ‘ No to drugs ‘ campaign.

 

International Events:

Michel Aoun:

  • Lebanon President Michel Aoun has left the Presidential Palace marking the end of his six – year term without a replacement. He served as the President from 31 October 2016 until 30 October 2022.
  • As Aoun’s term ended , the country is being run by a caretaker government after Prime Minister – designate Najib Mikati failed to form a new Cabinet following May 15 parliamentary elections.

 

SCO:

  • External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar represented India at the 21st Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization ( SCO ). It was held virtually on 1 November 2022.
  • Chinese Premier Li Keqiang will host the meeting in Beijing. At present , India is holding SCO Presidency which began in September 2022 and will culminate in September 2023.

 

World Vegan Day : 1st November:

  • Every year , World Vegan Day is celebrated on November 1st. Veganism is the practice of staying away from the use of animal products & extending the philosophy to banning of commodification of animals.
  • On this day , people are made aware of the benefits of veganism & how it is a sustainable approach to the environment as well. This day was established in 1994 by The Vegan Society in the UK.

 

Black Sea Grain:

  • The United Nations , Turkey and Ukraine on 31st Oct 2022 agreed to implement a Black Sea grain deal despite Russia’s withdrawal from the pact.
  • Black Sea grain Initiative was launched by Russia , Turkey , Ukraine , and the United Nations on 22 July 2022. This initiative was set up to reintroduce vital food and fertilizer exports from Ukraine to the rest of the world.

 

World Cities Day : 31st October:

  • World Cities Day is celebrated on October 31 every year to highlight the need for international cooperation to promote global urbanisation and address its challenges. This day was established by the UN General Assembly in 2013 and was first celebrated in 2014.
  • A different city hosts the event each year & Shanghai , China , hosted the event in 2022. 2022 Theme : ” Act Local to Go Global “.
