National Events:

SDMF:

  • Home Minister Amit Shah has approved the release of Rs 488 cr as Central share of the State Disaster Mitigation Fund ( SDMF ) to Uttar Pradesh , Punjab and Goa for 2021-22.
  • The Central Government has allocated over 32,000 crore rupees for the SDMF and over 13,693 crore rupees for the National Disaster Mitigation Fund for the years 2021-22 to 2025-26.

 

NMCG:

  • National Mission for Clean Ganga , NMCG has approved 14 Projects worth 1,145 crore rupees. The projects are related to sewerage management , biodiversity conservation , afforestation , and decentralized wastewater treatment.
  • These include eight projects of sewerage management in five main stem Ganga basin states – Uttarakhand , Uttar Pradesh , Bihar , Jharkhand , and West Bengal.

 

Airtel & Nokia:

  • Airtel and Nokia have partnered to bring India’s first 5G – enabled immersive experience to visitors at the Indian Mobile Congress ( IMC ) 2022.
  • Airtel and Nokia will bring to life the cultural splendour of Kashi Vishwanath temple and the Statue of Unity through holographic images demonstrating the benefits of ultra – fast and low latency 5G network.

 

PFRDA:

  • Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority ( PFRDA ) will observe 1st of October as the National Pension System Diwas. Aim : to promote pension & retirement planning among the citizens.
  • PFRDA is organising this campaign under ‘ Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav ‘.PFRDA is the regulatory body for overall supervision & regulation of pension in India. Founded : 2003. Chairman : Supratim Bandyopadhyay.

 

Right to Freedom of Religion of Religion Bill:

  • The Karnataka Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion of Religion Bill , 2022 , has received the assent of Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot.
  • Now , the legislation provides for the protection of the right to freedom of religion and prohibition of unlawful conversion from one religion to another by misrepresentation , force , undue influence , coercion , allurement or by any fraudulent means.

 

Odisha government:

  • The Odisha government has adopted a four – fold strategy to make the roads in the state safe through enforcement , education , improvement in road engineering and emergency care.
  • Chief minister Naveen Patnaik made the announcement at the SAFE Convention organised by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers ( SIAM ) in Bhubaneswar.

 

Aasara:

  • As a part of its welfare measures and social safety strategy , the Telangana government has introduced the ‘ Aasara ‘ pensions , with It is a welfare scheme of pensions to old people , widows , physically disabled and beedi workers.
  • 10,000 new Aasara pensions have been sanctioned under Asif Nagar Mandal jurisdiction.

 

RTN Service:

  • The Department of Posts J & K Circle started a dedicated Road Network Transport ( RTN ) Service on daily basis which will connect Jammu and Srinagar for transmission of Parcels / Speed Post Parcels.
  • This is the first RTN service connecting Jammu City to the Kashmir Valley. With this , J & K has got connected to the rest of India for the fastest transmission of all kinds of parcel items.

 

Punjab Assembly:

  • The Punjab Assembly on 30 Sept 2022 passed a bill to dissolve the state Vigilance Commission , with CM Bhagwant Mann saying that it was not serving any useful purpose except being a burden on the exchequer.
  • The state Vigilance Commission was set up in 2020 to curb corruption among the state’s public servants. The Assembly also passed the Punjab Goods and Services Tax ( Amendment ) Bill , 2022.

 

Armed Forces(Special Forces):

  • The Ministry of Home Affairs on 30 Sept 2022 extended the Armed Forces ( Special Powers ) Act ( AFSPA ) in parts of Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland for another six months.
  • It has been extended in 12 districts of Nagaland & Arunachal Pradesh , & certain parts of 5 other districts of these 2 states. The AFSPA was entirely lifted in Tripura in 2015 , in Meghalaya in 2018 , & in Mizoram in 1980s.

 

International Events:

International Day of Older Persons : 1 October:

  • October 1 is observed as the International Day of Older Persons across the globe. The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution on December 14 , 1990 , to establish October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons.
  • The UN General Assembly in 1991 approved the United Nations Principles for Older Persons. 2022 theme : ” Resilience of Older Persons in a Changing World”.

 

G20:

  • India’s G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant attended the 3rd G20 Sherpa meeting held in Yogyakarta , Indonesia from 26 to 29 September. The current chair of G20 is held by Indonesia.
  • The first Sherpa meeting under the Indonesian Presidency was held in December 2021 and the second in July 2022. India is set to take over the G20 presidency in Dec 2022 and will host the next summit in New Delhi in 2023.

 

USA , South Korea & Japan:

  • The United States , South Korea , and Japan navies staged trilateral anti – submarine exercises for the first time in five years on 30 Sept 2022.
  • The drills were held in international waters off the Korean peninsula’s east coast amid tension over North Korea’s series of missile tests. The drills will enhance inter – operability and tactical and technical coordination among the three countries.

 

World Vegetarian Day : 1 October:

  • Every year on 1 Oct , World Vegetarian Day is celebrated to highlight the benefits of vegetarianism. Aim : to bring awareness to the environmental & health benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle.
  • This day was established by the North American Vegetarian Society in 1977 and was further endorsed by the International Vegetarian Union in 1978. October is also observed as Vegetarian Awareness Month.

 

India & Nigeria:

  • The second round of Foreign Office Consultations between India & Nigeria was held in New Delhi on 28 September. Both sides reviewed the bilateral relations covering political , economic & commercial investment & defence & security.
  • India is one of the largest investors in Nigeria , with an estimated investment of approximately $ 19.3 billion. Nigeria Capital : Abuja. President : Muhammadu Buhari.
