National Events:

India’s first 24×7 solar – powered village:

PM Modi on 9th Oct 2022 declared Modhera in Gujarat’s Mehsana district as India’s first 24×7 solar – powered village.
In the village a ground – mounted solar power plant , and over 1,300 rooftop solar systems have been installed on houses to generate electricity.
Both the central and state governments have invested over ₹ 80 crore in this project.

Odisha government:

The Odisha government has come up with concrete measures to prevent elephant deaths after being run over by trains.
The state forest department has now opted for the installation of hanging solar fencing along railway tracks passing through elephant corridors to deter wild pachyderms from venturing near railway lines and highways.
Same incident had already happened at Joda In Keonjhar.

Approval to operate 24/7:

E – commerce company Amazon India is among 314 applicants that have been granted approval to operate 24/7 in New Delhi.
With this approval , Amazon’s products can be delivered round – the – clock in New Delhi.
It is expected to boost employment generation and promote a positive and favourable business environment in Delhi.

World Mental Health Day : 10th October:

World Mental Health Day is observed every year on 10th October to raise awareness about mental health around the world and to mobilize efforts to support those experiencing mental health issues.
It was first celebrated in 1992 at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health. 2022 Theme : ” Make mental health for all a global priority “.

UNSC:

India will host diplomats of the UN Security Council ( UNSC ) along with other member states for a key meeting of the Counter – Terrorism Committee in Mumbai and New Delhi on 28-29 Oct 2022.
Focus of the meeting : “Countering the Use of New and Emerging Technologies for Terrorist Purposes”.
India is currently the Chair of the UN Security Council Counter – Terrorism Committee for the year 2022.

Sports Events:

Japanese F1 Grand Prix:

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen on 9th Oct 2022 won the Japanese F1 Grand Prix to become world champion for the second successive season.
Red Bull ‘ Sergio Perez & Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc came at the 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
It was Verstappen’s maiden Japanese GP win. Earlier , Sergio Perez had won the Singapore F1 Grand Prix on 2nd Oct 2022.

Asian Weightlifting Championships:

Indian weightlifter Harshada Garud won a bronze medal in the women’s 45kg category at the Asian Weightlifting Championships 2022 in Manama , Bahrain on 8th Oct 2022.
Harshada lifted 68 kg in snatch and 84 kg in clean and jerk to aggregate 152 kg. 187 athletes from 30 nations are participating in the Asian Weightlifting Championships 2022 , which will conclude on 16th October in Bahrain.
