National Events:

Bangladesh Film Festival:

  • The fourth Bangladesh Film Festival was inaugurated on 29 October 2022 in Kolkata. The five day long festival is showcasing 37 popular Bangladeshi films including four documentaries and eight short films.
  • Some of the most popular and critically acclaimed films like Hawa , Poran , Gunin , Hridita , among others will be screened during the festival. The festival will conclude on November 2.

 

Fire and Fury Corps:

  • In Srinagar , a Strategic Conclave was held at Fire and Fury Corps on 30 October 2022. It was presided over by Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi , GOC – in – C Northern Command.
  • The conclave was held to analyse shifting geopolitical equations in the world in general and our neighborhood in particular.
  • It deliberated on a multitude of issues , at all levels , to develop a comprehensive understanding.

 

Disaster & pandemic management:

  • Odisha Government has announced the introduction of disaster & pandemic management in the educational curricula of students from Class 4 to Graduation levels. This will help Odisha in preparing Disaster Management Yodhas in every village and household.
  • Odisha observes Disaster Preparedness Day on 29th October every year to remember the 1999 super cyclone which killed about 10,000 people in the State.

 

Lord Shiva statue:

  • The world’s tallest Lord Shiva statue at 369 feet in Rajasthan was opened for darshan of devotees.
  • Chief minister Ashok Khelat, spiritual teacher Morari Babu and assembly president C.P. Joshi inaugurated the huge idol installed on a hill in Nadwara town of Rajsamand district.

 

International Events:

Trilateral Navy exercise:

  • India has held its first – ever trilateral Navy exercise with Africa as part of initiatives to expand defence partnership with the continent.
  • Trilateral exercise comprising Navies of India , Tanzania & Mozambique was held at Dar Es Salaam , Tanzania from 27th to 29th October 2022.
  • Indian Navy was represented by the guided missile frigate , INS Tarkash , a Chetak helicopter and MARCOS ( Special Forces ).

 

”Yudh Abhyas”:

  • Indian and US militaries to conduct the battalion-level “Yudh Abhyas” exercise between 15th November 2022 to 2nd December 2022.
  • The Yudh Abhyas will be held at Auli in Uttarakhand which from just 100 km from the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
  • The member countries of the “Quad” will conduct the Malabar exercise off Yokosuka in Japan between 8th November 2022 to 18th November 2022.
  • The “Quad” member countries include India, Australia, Japan, and the US. The Quad has declared that it would “deter” any “coercion” in the Indo-Pacific. “Yudh Abhyas” will include high-altitude warfare drills.

 

World Psoriasis Day:

  • World Psoriasis Day is observed every year on October 29th to make the general public aware of the important facts related to psoriasis and this disease and its treatment.
  • In the year 2022, World Psoriasis Day is being observed with the theme of “Unloading Psoriatic Disease”.

 

Sports Events:

FIFA & AIFF:

  • Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan signed an MoU in Mumbai on 30th Oct 2022 with FIFA(Fédération Internationale de Football Association) and All India Football Federation ( AIFF ) for the ‘ Football4Schools ‘ initiative in India.
  • ‘ Football4Schools ‘ aims to empower 25 million young boys and girls in India through sports – integrated learning.
  • FIFA HQ : Zürich , Switzerland. FIFA President : Gianni Infantino. AIFF President : Kalyan Chaubey.

 

Sultan of Johor Cup:

  • Indian Under 21 men’s hockey team defeated Australia in the final match to win the Sultan of Johor Cup 2022 in Malaysia on 29th October. This is the third time India has won the Sultan of Johor Cup.
  • India’s previous two titles came in 2013 and 2014. India’s Sudeep Chirmako was named the Player of the Match. A total of six teams competed for the title. Sultan of Johor Cup first edition : 2011.
