National Events:

Modi @ 20 : Dreams Meet Delivery:

  • External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on 6th Oct 2022 participated in the Kiwi Indian Hall of Fame Awards 2022 and launched the book ” Modi @ 20 : Dreams Meet Delivery ” in Auckland , New Zealand.
  • The event felicitated members of the Indian community in New Zealand for their exceptional achievements and contributions. New Zealand Capital : Wellington. Prime Minister : Jacinda Ardern.

 

GDP:

  • The World Bank on 6th Oct 2022 cut its 2022-23 ( FY23 ) real gross domestic product ( GDP ) growth forecast for India to 6.5 % , from an earlier estimate of 7.5 %. This is the 3rd time the World Bank has revised its GDP growth forecast for India in FY23.
  • In June 2022 , it had slashed its FY23 GDP growth forecast for India to 7.5 %. Earlier in April 2022 , it had trimmed the forecast from 8.7 % to 8 %.

 

’DAKSH’:

  • The RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das on 6th Oct 2022 launched a web – based application called ‘ DAKSH ‘ , to make the supervisory processes more robust.
  • It will monitor compliance requirements in a more focused manner with the objective of further improving the compliance culture in Supervised Entities like Banks & NBFCs. It will also enable cyber incident reporting & analysis.

 

Prashant Kumar:

  • Veteran banker Prashant Kumar has been appointed as the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Yes Bank for a period of three years. The RBI on 6th Oct 2022 approved the appointment of Kumar.
  • Before joining YES Bank , Kumar was the Deputy Managing Director & CFO of the SBI. Yes Bank is an Indian bank headquartered in Mumbai . Founded : 2004. Founders : Rana Kapoor & Ashok Kapur.

 

ISA:

  • International Solar Alliance’s ( ISA ) 5th Assembly will be held in New Delhi from 17th to 20th Oct 2022. Union Power , New & Renewable Energy Minister R.K Singh will preside over the Assembly.
  • Currently , India holds the office of the President of the ISA Assembly. Delegates from 109 Member Countries will participate in this meeting. ISA HQ : Gurugram , Haryana. Director General : Ajay Mathur.

 

GFR:

  • The General Fertility Rate ( GFR ) has declined in India by 20 % over the past decade , according to the Sample Registration System ( SRS ) data 2020 released in September 2022. GFR refers to the number of children born per 1,000 women in a year.
  • The average GFR in India stood at 86.1 from 2008 to 2010 and has come down to 68.7 during 2018-20. J & K ( 29.2 ) has witnessed maximum decline in GFR.

 

Sirimanotsavam Jatara:

  • Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh is gearing up for the annual Sirimanotsavam , which will be held on 11 October. It is a major festival of the presiding deity of Vizianagaram town Sri Pydithalli Ammavari Jatara.
  • It is the major tribal- folk festival in North coastal Andhra Pradesh. Traditionally , Sirimanotsavam Jatara is celebrated on the first Tuesday after the Dussehra festival every year.

 

Bird Festival:

  • In Jammu and Kashmir , a first of its kind Bird Festival 2022 was inaugurated at Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on October 6 , 2022.
  • The Bird Festival is being organised by the J & K Tourism Department in collaboration with Sanctuary Nature Foundation. Secretary Tourism J & K , Sarmad Hafeez inaugurated the festival.

 

Amrit Sarovar:

  • Jammu and Kashmir has achieved the milestone of being the first to establish at least 75 Amrit Sarovars in each of its districts.
  • This was informed by Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta. As per the guidelines of the Mission , the UT had to complete 300 Amrit Sarovars before 15th August 2022 and 1500 Amrit Sarovars by 15th Aug 2023.

 

Kerala & Finland:

  • The Kerala government will tie up with Finland in the fields of general education and higher education. Initial collaborations will be among research institutes , teacher exchange training programmes and assessment of learning at various levels.
  • It was decided following the discussions between a high – level delegation from Kerala and Finland Government in October 2022. Kerala CM : Pinarayi Vijayan.

 

BRS:

  • Telangana’s ruling party Telangana Rashtra Samiti ( TRS ) on 5th Oct 2022 changed its name to ‘ Bharat Rashtra Samiti ‘ ( BRS ). Party president and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao announced that after this the party will enter national politics.
  • Launched in April 2001 , TRS was instrumental in carrying forth a sustained agitation for the granting of statehood to Telangana.

 

GSLVM-3:

  • The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) plans to launch 36 British satellites by the end of this month on a GSLVM-3 heavy rocket.
  • The project, which is to be implemented for commercial use, is being carried out on the basis of the MoU between ISRO’s ‘New Space India’ and Britain’s ‘One Web’.

 

International Events:

World Cotton Day : 7th October:

  • World Cotton day is celebrated every year on 7th October as a global celebration of cotton and its stakeholders.
  • At the initiative of the Cotton – 4 ( Benin , Burkina Faso , Chad and Mali ) , the World Trade Organisation made the launch of World Cotton Day on 7th October 2019.
  • Cotton is a multipurpose plant chiefly used in the textile industry. 2022 Theme : ” Weaving a better future for cotton “.

 

Nicole Mann:

  • US astronaut Nicole Mann has become the first Native American woman to go to space following a NASA launch on 5th October.
  • Mann , 45 , is one of four astronauts who blasted off from Florida on 5th Oct bound for the International Space Station ( ISS ).
  • The mission in which Mann is taking part is named ‘ Crew 5 ‘ and it was using a launch vehicle that comprised a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.

 

Sports Events:

FIH:

  • India’s PR Sreejesh & Savita Punia have been voted FIH Men’s & Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year 2021-22 , according to the International Hockey Federation ( FIH ).
  • Savita has become only the 3rd athlete to win this award for consecutive 2 years since the inception of the award in 2014.
  • While Sreejesh has become the 2nd player to win the award 2 consecutive times. FIH HQ : Lausanne , Switzerland.
