National Events:

Manipur CM N.Biren Singh:

  • Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh inaugurated the Flybig flight from Imphal to Tezu of Arunachal Pradesh at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport on 26 September 2022.
  • The service has been commenced under the UDAN Scheme. The newly launched flight service will fly to Tezu of Arunachal Pradesh and then to Guwahati.

 

NPCI:

  • Dilip Asbe has been reappointed as the managing director & chief executive officer of the National Payments Corporation of India ( NPCI ) for a period of 5 years. Asbe took over as MD & CEO of NPCI in 2018.
  • Prior to that , he was NPCI’s chief operating officer. NPCI , a specialised division of the RBI , was created in 2008 for operating retail payments & settlement systems in India. HQ : Mumbai.

 

AVGAS 100 LL:

  • Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri on 26 Sept 2022 launched indigenously – developed AVGAS 100 LL , a special aviation fuel meant for piston engine aircraft & unmanned ariel vehicles.
  • The fuel has been developed by Indian Oil Corporation at its flagship refinery in Vadodara. Currently , India imports this type of aviation fuel from European countries. Indian Oil Corp Chairman : Shrikant Vaidya.

 

’One week One Lab’:

  • Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh on 26 Sept 2022 announced the ‘ One Week One Lab ‘ theme – based campaign to showcase technological breakthroughs and innovations.
  • The campaign will be held in each of the 37 Council of Scientific and Industrial Research ( CSIR ) labs & institutes spread across the country.
  • He announced it while addressing the 1st – ever CSIR Leadership Meet in New Delhi on 26 September.

 

CIAL:

  • The Cochin International Airport Limited ( CIAL ) has been awarded the Airport Service Quality ( ASQ ) award 2022 by the Airport Council International.The award is considered to be the highest honour in the global aviation sector.
  • CIAL received the award for implementing its ‘ Mission Safeguarding ‘ programme , which ensured seamless traffic & reinforced passenger satisfaction during the pandemic.

 

DPD:

  • As an outreach and capacity – building initiative in J & K region , Department of Publications Division ( DPD ) , Ministry of Information & Broadcasting , organised a Media & Publishing Conference in Srinagar in September 2022.
  • It was held in association with the Public Relations Centre of University of Kashmir. A Book Exhibition of DPD was also held on the sidelines of the event.

 

Encyclopaedia of Tribes:

  • Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on 26 Sept 2022 released the ‘ Encyclopaedia of Tribes , covering the traditions and cultures of all the 62 tribal communities living in the state.
  • The 5 – volume encyclopaedia has been prepared by Scheduled Castes & Scheduled Tribes Research & Training Institute & Odisha State Tribal Museum. It contains 3,800 pages and 418 research articles on the tribals.

 

Ayushmann Utkrishta award:

  • Uttar Pradesh has been awarded the Ayushmann Utkrishta award 2022 for adding various health facilities to the health facility register.
  • It is the best – performing state in the country with 28728 Health facilities added to the National health facility register.
  • Also , it is the second – best State in the country in creating Ayushmann Bharat health account ( ABHA ) with almost 2 crores ABH Accounts.

 

Tamil Nadu Events:

Tamil Nadu Cabinet:

  • The Tamil Nadu Cabinet on 26 Sept 2022 gave its nod to promulgate an ordinance to regulate online gambling in the state. It would be promulgated once Governor R N Ravi gives his assent.
  • In June 2022 , the State government had constituted a panel under the retired judge of the Madras High Court Justice K Chandru to recommend the promulgation of an ordinance to regulate online gambling in the State.

 

International Events:

World Tourism Day : 27 September:

  • World Tourism Day is celebrated each year on September 27 to spread awareness about the importance of tourism and its impact on our society.
  • United Nations World Tourism Organization ( UNWTO ) established this day in 1980. In 1997 , UNWTO decided to designate a host country each year to celebrate this day.
  • In 2022 , Indonesia is the host country & the theme is ‘ Rethinking Tourism ‘.

 

Oscars of Science:

  • The 2023 winners of the Breakthrough Prizes , dubbed the ” Oscars of Science ” were announced in September.
  • The winners are Daniel Spielman ( Mathematics ) , Charles Bennett , Gilles Brassard , David Deutsch & Peter Shor ( Fundamental Physics ) & Clifford Brangwynne & Anthony Hyman ( Life sciences ).
  • These prizes were founded by Sergey Brin , Mark Zuckerberg & Yuri Milner. First awarded : 2012.

 

Russian citizenship:

  • President Vladimir Putin has granted Russian citizenship to former US security contractor Edward Snowden. Snowden is one of 75 foreign nationals who have been granted Russian citizenship.
  • Snowden , a former employee of the U.S. National Security Agency , has been living in Russia since 2013 to escape prosecution in the US after leaking classified documents detailing govt surveillance programs.

 

World Environmental Health Day : 26 September:

  • World Environmental Health Day is commemorated every year on 26 September around the world to raise awareness about the important role of environmental health professionals.
  • This day was established by the International Federation of Environmental Health ( IFEH ) in 2011. 2022 Theme : ” Strengthening Environmental Health Systems for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals”.

 

Sports Events:

Laver Cup:

  • Team World , on 25 September, beat Team Europe to win the Laver Cup for the first time. Laver Cup is an international indoor hard court tournament between Team Europe & Team World.
  • Players from all continents , besides Europe , represent Team World. First edition : 2017.
