National Events:

IDBI Bank:

  • IDBI Bank’s board of directors has approved re – appointing Samuel Joseph Jebaraj as deputy managing director for three years with effect from September 20.
  • Currently , Government holds 45.48 per cent stake in IDBI bank , and Life Insurance Corp of India , which is currently the promoter of the bank , owns a 49.24 per cent stake. IDBI Bank MD and CEO : Rakesh Sharma. Headquarters : Mumbai.

 

India’s healthcare industry:

  • India’s healthcare industry is expected to grow to hit $ 50 billion in size by 2025 , said Union minister Jitendra Singh. Telemedicine is also expected to reach $ 5.5 billion by 2025.
  • The prime objective of the government is to reduce import dependence from 80 % to below 30 % in next 10 years and ensure self – reliance quotient of 80 % in med – tech through Make in India with SMART milestones.

 

Foreign Exchange:

  • RBI has issued an ‘ Alert List ‘ containing the names of 34 entities which are neither authorised to deal in foreign exchange under FEMA nor authorised to operate electronic trading platform for forex transactions under electronic trading platforms.
  • The alert list includes names of companies like Alpari , AnyTrade , Binomo , eToro , FinFxPro , FXCM , and iFOREX and other such firms . RBI HQ : Mumbai.

 

Mutual recognition of academic qualifications:

  • The Union Cabinet has approved an MoU between India and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on mutual recognition of academic qualifications. It was signed on 25 April 2022.
  • It will promote bilateral exchange of information about educational structure, programs and standards and increase mobility of students and professionals between the two countries.

 

DRDO & Indian Army:

  • DRDO and Indian Army successfully completed six flight – tests of Quick Reaction Surface to Air missile QRSAM system from Integrated Test Range Chandipur off the Odisha coast , in Sept 2022.
  • The flight tests were conducted as part of evaluation trials by the Indian Army .The performance of the system has been confirmed from the data captured by a number of range instruments like Telemetry.

 

Cooperation in the field of education:

  • The Union Cabinet has approved to sign of an MoU between the Ministry of Education , India , and the Ministry of Education of the Government of UAE on cooperation in the field of education.
  • The MoU will be valid for a period of five years from the date of signing and will be automatically renewable with the consent of both parties .It shall supersede the earlier MoU signed with UAE in 2015.

 

Disaster Management:

  • The Union Cabinet has approved the MoU between the National Disaster ” Management Authority , India and the National Disaster Management Authority of the Republic of Maldives on cooperation in the field of disaster management.
  • It seeks to put in place a system , whereby both will be benefited from the disaster management mechanisms of each other. NDMA headquarters : New Delhi Established : 2005.

 

NIESBUD & IIE:

  • The National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development ( NIESBUD ) and the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship ( IIE ) , have individually signed an MoU with the Indian School of Business ( ISB ).
  • They will offer world class management education through entrepreneurial programmes targeted towards youth , job seekers and budding entrepreneurs.

 

UNESCO GNLC:

  • Telangana’s Warangal along with Kerala’s Nilambur and Thrissur has joined the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities ( GNLC ).
  • These cities have been recognized for their outstanding efforts to make lifelong learning a reality for all at the local level.
  • The UNESCO GNLC is an international network consisting of 294 cities that successfully promote lifelong learning across their communities.

 

’Manthan’:

  • Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate a three – day conference called ‘ Manthan ‘ in Bengaluru on 8 September 2022.
  • Organised by : Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.It aims at anchoring discussions across multiple issues and opportunities in the roads , transport & logistics sector.
  • Theme : ‘ Ideas to Action ‘ : Towards a smart , sustainable , road infra , mobility and logistics ecosystem’.

 

2+2 Ministerial Dialogue:

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh along with EAM Dr S Jaishankar will participate in the 2nd India – Japan ‘ 2 + 2 Ministerial Dialogue ‘ in Tokyo on 8 September 2022.
  • The Japanese side will be represented by Yasukazu Hamada and Yoshimasa Hayashi. This Dialogue will review the bilateral cooperation across domains .The year 2022 also marks 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

 

e – Prosecution portal:

  • Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the top state in terms of the number of disposal & entry of cases through the e – Prosecution portal. The number of disposal & entry of cases in UP through this portal stood at 9.12 mil till August 2022.
  • This portal is managed by the Union government under its Digital India Mission & it helps courts & the prosecution system in accelerating criminal trials in heinous crimes.

 

Agnikul Cosmos:

  • Agnikul Cosmos , one of India’s private space startups , has secured its first patent for the design and manufacturing of its 3D – printed rocket engine.
  • The patent has been rewarded to the company for its Agnilet rocket engine , which will power the company’s Agnibaan rocket which is scheduled to launch in late 2022. Agnikul Cosmos Founded : 2017. HQ : Chennai.

 

SETU:

  • Union minister Piyush Goyal on 7 September 2022 launched programme SETU ( Supporting Entrepreneurs in Transformation and Upskilling ) in San Francisco , US.
  • Aim : to connect start – ups in India to US – based investors and start – up ecosystem leaders with mentorship and assistance in various areas.
  • It will help budding entrepreneurs in the sectors including funding , market access & commercialisation.

 

Leasing of Railways ‘ Land:

  • Union Cabinet on 7 September 2022 approved the policy on long – term leasing of Railways ‘ Land for implementing PM Gati Shakti framework.
  • The new policy will help provide land lease for a longer period of up to 35 years as against five years at present. Under the new policy , railways has also cut down land lease fee from 6 per cent to 1.5 per cent.

 

Tamil Nadu Events:

Bharat Gaurav:

  • Under the Bharat Gaurav scheme, a private train from Madurai to Harithwar will be operated for the third time on 22nd.
  • The Indian Railways launched the ‘Bharat Gaurav ‘ train project on November 23 last year to allow people to explore the high cultural and historical places of India.
  • Under this scheme, the first train service on the Southern Railway was run to Coimbatore-Shirdi. Subsequently, a second private train was run from Madurai to Varanasi.

 

International Events:

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Student Scholarship:

  • Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina conferred the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Student Scholarship in New Delhi in September 2022.
  • The first ever scholarship was conferred on the descendants of soldiers , officers of Armed Forces of India who were martyred or critically wounded during the historic Liberation war of 1971.

 

US visas:

  • The United States has issued a record of 82,000 student visas to Indians in 2022. Indian students received more US student visas than any other country.
  • As per the embassy , Indian students comprise nearly 20 percent of all international students studying in the United States , with the Open Doors report in 2021 showing there were 167,582 students from India in the 2020-2021 academic year.

 

International Literacy Day : 8 September:

  • International Literacy Day is observed on the 8th of September every year. It is observed to make people aware of the meaning and importance of literacy for individuals and societies. Literacy refers to a person’s ability to read or write.
  • UNESCO established this Day in 1966 & it was first celebrated on 8 September 1967. 2022 Theme : ” Transforming Literacy Learning Spaces “.

 

International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies : 7 September:

  • International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies is observed on September 7 to recognise the value of clean air in our health and daily lives.
  • This day was designated by the UN General Assembly in 2019 & was first observed on 7 September 2020.

 

Sports Events:

Mastercard:

  • American financial company Mastercard has replaced Paytm as the title sponsor of the Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI ) , With this , Mastercard will be the title sponsor for all international matches ( both women & men ) scheduled in India.
  • It also covers domestic matches like Irani Trophy , Duleep Trophy , & Ranji Trophy . Paytm held the rights for 7 years as the title sponsor of BCCI.
