Radio burst spotted by NASA for the first time in Milky Way

NASA recently reported that it observed a mix of radio signals and X-ray in Milky Way in April 2020. This has never been observed earlier in the galaxy. NASA has also reported the spotting of Fast Radio Bursts. This was detected by the CHIME telescope.

Key facts:

The Fast Radio Bursts were discovered in 2007. However, this is the first time the radio bursts were spotted in Milky Way Galaxy. Though, the radio bursts were discovered, their source of origin couldn’t be located.

The first radio burst was observed in 2007 during a pulsar survey data. So far only one radio burst is repeating itself. It is repeating every 16.35 days regularly.

What are Fast Radio Bursts?

Fast Radio Bursts are bright bursts of radio waves produced by astronomical objects with changing magnetic fields. The duration of these bursts last only for milli-second. Due to this short duration of occurrence, it is highly difficult to spot Fast Radio Bursts.

Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Navarne conferred with rank of “General of Nepal Army”

Indian Army Chief Manoj Mukund Navarne was conferred with the rank of honorary General of Nepal Army. The President of Nepal Bidya Devi Bhandari presented him with a scroll and a sword during the honouring ceremony.

Key facts:

Chief Navarne is on a three day visit to Nepal. He is in Nepal to discuss “Army-to-Army relations and bilateral defence cooperation” with his counterpart.

The tradition of bestowing honorary title to the army chief of other countries has been in practice since 1950. Earlier, the Nepali Army Chief Chandra Thapa was honoured with similar rank by President Ram Nath Kovind.

China successfully launches 13 satellites in a single rocket

China launched 13 satellites in a single rocket successfully. Of these 13 satellites, 10 were from Argentina. This is the biggest launch of foreign satellites by the country.

The satellites were launched on the Long March 6 carrier rocket. This was the 351st satellite launch of the Long March series. China has been putting satellites of several countries in space including its close ally, Pakistan.

Future Space Programmes of China:

China is to construct a permanent Chinese space Station by 2022. Tianwen-1 is a mars mission of China. The spacecraft will arrive Mars in 2021 and was launched in July 2020.

First ever Indian Origin Minister of New Zealand

Priyanca Radhakrishnan was appointed as the first-ever Indian-origin minister of New Zealand by the country’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

Key facts:

Priyanca Radhakrishnan has spent her work life advocating on behalf of people whose voices are often unheard women survivors of domestic violence, and migrant workers who have been exploited.

She was elected first as a Member of Parliament belonging to the Labour Party in September 2017. In 2019, she was appointed the Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Minister for Ethnic Communities.

14th Asian Film Awards 2020

Oscar Best Picture winner “Parasite” was the biggest winner at the 14th Asian Film Awards in Busan, South Korea.

Indian Movie Gully Boy has received the award for the Best Original Score at 14th Asian Film Awards. It has been directed by Zoya Akhtar.
